Position Title:
Buyer / Production Planner

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To : Materials Manager

Description : The Buyer / Production Planner is responsible for ensuring that high quality materials are available to Solta Medical at the expected time, in the expected quantities and at the expected costs. Functional responsibilities include planning, procurement, and cost reductions. The Buyer / Production Planner is also responsible for the planning, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of products through the complete production cycle.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties:
Note: The following are meant to be representative but not necessarily all inclusive of the duties and responsibilities for this position title.

Planning : Plans, schedules, coordinates and monitors products through the complete production cycle utilizing product completion transactions including backflushes, job completions, and other transactional related processes. Coordinates intercompany product transfers. Determines and manages potential line shortages by analyzing build schedules, shortage reports, on hand inventory reports and supplier delivery information. Resolves work order variances and determines/tracks root causes. Responsible for maintaining accurate information of production schedules and customer orders. Prepares and maintains necessary reports on production output, efficiency output, capacity and other reports as directed. Attends daily production meetings. Reviews existing planning tools and suggests improvements or new tools. Participates in Supply Chain Process Development and Implementation.

Purchasing : Working to an approved forecast and utilizing MRP, is responsible for planning component purchases to support the manufacturing plan while maintaining optimal inventory levels. Includes responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the vendor part master and vendor lead time data in the company’s ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software. Responsible for obtaining quotes and negotiating with suppliers where appropriate in order to obtain fair pricing for high quality components, equipment, and services to support production and engineering. Responsible for purchase order entry in the ERP system, placing orders with suppliers, and working with suppliers to ensure on-time receipts. Also responsible for company MRO purchasing duties.

Supply Chain Management : Evaluates supplier reliability and works with suppliers on continuous improvement. Assists in developing new supplier sources where suppliers are inadequate or when new suppliers / technologies are required. Provides input to the supplier rating system.

Inventory Management : Oversees the execution of the inventory cycle count program. Manages the distribution and collection of count sheets and posts count results. Leads efforts to resolve inventory variance on an ongoing basis. Generates inventory accuracy performance metrics.

Receiving : Monitors receiving activity and works with suppliers to ensure the orderly receipt of goods and services delivered to the company. Includes responsibility for working with Quality Assurance to assure the timely flow of product through QC inspection processes as well as the appropriate disposition of non-conforming materials. Obtains RMA’s (Return Material Authorizations) from suppliers and assists in preparing materials to be returned. Provides input pertaining to excess and obsolete material.

Budgetary/Financial : Responsible for monitoring and reporting of various financial metrics related to purchasing. Provides component standard cost update information. Works with Cost Accounting for month end close.

Experience, Education, Training, Traits:

• An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Buyer Planner experience - particularly in the manufacture of instrumentation and/or medical devices (4 years or more) including:
• Knowledge and experience in the utilization of ERP systems and planning tools.
• Knowledge and experience in Bill of Material structures and component specifications.
• Purchasing skills to include obtaining quotes and negotiations.
• Purchase order entry skills, knowledge of receiving transactions and return to vendor transactions. o Inventory management knowledge to include knowledge of various inventory transactions.
• Experience working within a rigorous quality system environment (ISO 13485, FDA cGMP/QSR).
• Strong collaboration, team building, and development skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Strong MS Office skills.
• Expandable, SAP, and / or Microsoft AX ERP experience preferred.
• APICS certification is preferred.
• Valid drivers’ license required.

Language and Verbal Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, specifications, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Ability to clearly and concisely convey project accomplishments, obstacles, issues, and project status.

Math Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, process capabilities and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to use MS Excel to perform calculations and interpret project results/data.

Analytical and Reading Skills

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to read technical and clinical literature and documents and extract important concepts.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to perform lifting tasks of up to 10 pounds for short durations. Duties of this job may involve standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Duties also involve daily keyboard data entry. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Occasional out of town travel (approximately 5%).

Work Environment

Most work will be performed in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
