Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Specialist performs clerical and clinical assistive tasks in the delivery of patient care. To qualify for "Specialist" status in ICU an employee must be proficient in the following: Certified Nursing Assistant along with the Unit Secretary skill set.
Education: High School graduate or GED preferred. Completion of training in basic unit secretary tasks (i.e., transcription of physician order, computer order entry, etc.)
Certifications: Current Listing as a Certified Nursing Assistant with the state of North Carolina Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property in a facility that provides Nursing Care. BLS within 3 months of hire and maintain thereafter.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds. Ability to see colors, see at least 1 mm squares. Ability to hear and distinguish sounds, to take BP. Ability to reach overhead. Ability to remain calm, continue to function effectively and develop priorities during stressful situations. Ability to communicate effectively using written and verbal media. Ability to move an operate equipment and carry supplies. Ability to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Working Environment: Potential exposure to patients who may be physically or verbally abusive. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials. This position may require the use of personal protective equipment during several patient and equipment related activities. Occasionally exposed to noise and unpleasant odors. Often works long hours, participates in the call schedule which requires working during the evening and night hours as required.
