Summary: The CNA provides support services to Home Health, Home Supportive, Private Pay and CAP/DA clients, under the supervision of a registered nurse or Physical Therapist, as prescribed by the physician or nurse and in compliance with the state's Nurse Practice Act, Federal Regulations and any other regulations governing In-Home Aide services. The CNA is responsible for the provision of a number of services to assist the client in meeting personal care and home management needs and to promote their comfort and independence, while enabling them to remain in their home environment. The aide provides these support services under the direction and supervision of a RN and/or PT, to assist the client or family in the achievement of physical and emotional comfort and to achieve the stated goals and objectives of the agency.

Education: Successful completion of a nurse aide course that meets federal/state requirements. Demonstrated ability to read, write and communicate effectively (verbal and written). High school diploma or GED preferred. Successful completion of the written competency exam and the skills demonstration evaluation required by the agency.

Skills: Takes oral and written instruction well. Works in a team responsibly, following the written plan of care as outlined by the registered nurse or therapist. Records observations and activities. Must possess good communication skills. Able to discern data reflecting the client's status and report the appropriate information to the client's case manager. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to and communicate with primarily the geriatric population, and to a lesser degree, the neonate through the adult populations.

Experience : Experience in related health care field preferred.

Certifications : Listed on the NC Division of Facility Services Nurse Aide I Registry without substantiated findings of abuse or neglect. * Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with driving record acceptable to MedWest's insurance carrier.

Physical Requirements : In a typical day, this job involves the following activities with the following frequency: Continuous ability to move, reach/extend, grasping, pinching, vision for close work and other sensory requirements i.e.: touch and smell. Frequent walking, turning/pivoting, twisting, balancing, talking in person, hearing in person, pushing/pulling, typical weight 50 lbs. maximum weight 75 lbs. and lifting/carrying typical weight 25 lbs. maximum weight 50 lbs. occasionally. Occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, climbing, reaching overhead, talking and hearing on the telephone. Rarely standing stationary. Must be able to lift and support weight bearing clients.

Working Environment : Must be at least 21 and a licensed driver in the state of NC and have availability of properly insured, safe, well-maintained vehicle, and be able to operate under conditions, which may not be ideal. The agency is staffed 7 days/week, 52 weeks/year. Scheduling of hours will be done with effort to accommodate personal preference and needs with the understanding that the needs of the clients must be served must be met. Delivery of client care in home settings could expose staff to contagious disease, pests/rodents. Night and weekend scheduling will be rotated as deemed necessary. The CNA must be knowledgeable and proficient in age specific competencies.
