Examples of Duties: A CAD/GIS Technician (Temporary) in the Engineering division in the Technical Services department at PCWA performs a variety of drafting and surveying duties using a CAD system, related database software and pen and ink to prepare design drawings for construction jobs, exhibits, right-of-way plats and diagrams, and maps. Responsibilities include posting jobs to maps and databases, making field checks and conducting field inspections to assist in the graphic representation of various projects; creating maps based on verbal or written instructions, rough sketches and data collected by field personnel; using Geographic Information System (GIS) software programs, commands and compilation methods to generate and utilize spatial overlays; consulting standard maps of cities, railroads, subdivision plots and highways to prepare new maps and updates to existing maps used for plotting water lines and facilities; interpreting contour maps, legal descriptions of property, metes and bounds, easements, right-of-ways and assessors’ maps; creating and maintaining electrical, engineering and mechanical drawings to support Agency systems; performing basic surveying activities; reducing field notes for the posting of as-builts and preparing of construction plans, profiles and details; maintaining accurate records and preparing clear, concise reports; and building and maintaining positive working relationships with co-workers, other Agency employees and the public.
Education and Experience: This temporary assignment requires sufficient training, education and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. These normally would be acquired by the equivalent to completion of the 12th grade and college-level coursework in drafting, surveying, engineering, GIS, cartography or a related field.
This position offers a flexible schedule of four to five days per week, 32 to 40 hours per week.
