The CAD Operator is responsible for applying manual, computer-aided drafting and Geographic Information System ( GIS ) drafting techniques to prepare and maintain plans, construction drawings, computer generated maps and related presentation materials for FMC staff. Transforms rough designs and conceptual concepts from the Architect/Project Manager or other FMC managers into complete and professional working documents. Able to use major furniture manufacturers’ software to generate 2D & 3D design drawings and specifications. Organize and maintain the division’s map, plan and project document room, including the task of digitizing and scanning old documents to create a digital library of all pertinent construction documents.
Develop and design detailed construction drawings and provide updates of existing CAD documents. Work closely with and provide technical support to division staff on all new construction and renovation projects. Create a complete and accurate material supply needs list for in-house renovation projects from rough draft documents or final electronic designs. Use current material and labor pricing information to complete project cost proposals for in-house labor and/or contracted services. Generate 2D & 3D furniture layout for new and re-purposed application under the direction of Architect. Prepare detail specifications for ordering & bidding furniture.
Organize and maintain the FMC division map/plan/project document room. Digitize all old paper documents. Create and maintain digitized construction documents on the division server for ready access by division management and technical staff. Coordinate with supervisors and directors (university-wide) to maintain department signage, room numbers, employee names and titles in their departments. Maintain and update building guide maps and interior directional signage. Assist the Director of Grounds with maintaining outdoor signage. Develop and maintain an accurate campus utility map. Perform other duties as assigned.
Work hours for this position:
Mon – Fri 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Technical or Associates degree in computer-aided drafting or applicable Applied Science degree.
One year of directly related job experience.
Outstanding interpersonal skills to efficiently work with a multitude of clients and employees. Exceptional oral and written communication skills sufficient to provide clear and concise written reports and oral presentations. Proficient user of Microsoft Office package – Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Proficient user of AutoCAD 2011 Professional Version or more recent Professional Version. Skills in performing cost analysis, depreciation analysis, and amortization studies.
Security sensitive position – must pass a criminal history and motor vehicle records check before an offer will be made.
Three years job-related experience in a higher education facilities environment.
