This position is responsible for performing a variety of computer-aided drafting (CAD), GIS, and surveying services for the Engineering and Public Services Department.
Uses computer drafting software, GIS software, and surveying software to produces various maps and drawings.
Assists with global positioning system data collection and mapping for inventory of manholes, water valves, water meters, sewer lines, storm drains, and street signs.
Verifies addresses; verifies that properties are within city limits or city extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Creates maps of current projects including listing of property owners.
Copies property maps and plats, water and sewer line plans, and construction plans for internal and external customers.
Researches deeds to determine property line, easements, and rights-of-way.
Maintains various filing systems and indexes of maps and plans.
Updates filing system by inputting information to Microsoft Excel.
Orders supplies for survey crew and drafting room.
Maintains the city’s Manual of Practice for technical specifications and design criteria.
Reviews legal descriptions for annexation plats.
Responds to citizens' questions and comments.
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Qualifications:
Applicant shall have a minimum of an associate degree in Surveying Technology or Civil Engineering Technology or commensurate work experience in a related field. Applicant will be required to successfully pass (70% correct) representative exam.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of civil and mechanical drafting.
Knowledge of surveying methods and practices, including platting requirements.
Skill in the use of Computer Aided Drafting software and techniques.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, where the employee may be exposed to occasional inclement weather and various types of topography.
