In keeping with the Dignity Health core values, this position is responsible for the operational management of the Southern California Service Area West (SCSAW) Cardiovascular Research Department. This department's primary purpose is to provide for the operational, regulatory and financial oversight of all cardiovascular human subject research conducted on the SCSAW campuses. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Cardiovascular Services, St John's Hospitals, the incumbent will serve as the principle administrative regional liaison for cardiovascular human subject research with respect to aligning the administrative, legal, financial and ethical (IRB) review of all new studies submitted for approval by existing research programs and other investigators wishing to conduct cardiovascular research. The incumbent must have outstanding managerial and organizational skills tied to knowledge of research administration in the application of regulations that promote the protection of human subjects. The incumbent must exercise independent judgment when making determinations about the need for administrative and ethical (IRB) review of research activities that meet the federal definition of human subject research.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, a minimum three (3) to five (5) years of full-time experience as a research coordinator, a minimum of three (3) years of experience in research administration in a hospital setting or closely related field, a combination of three (3) or more years experience in budget preparation, personnel management or general business management, a thorough understanding of operational requirements related to the management and implementation of Institutional Review Boards. thorough knowledge of fiscal planning, principles and techniques of administrative management including organization, planning, staffing, training and reporting and knowledge of GCP, ICH, Federal, State and other general regulatory research oversight requirements required. Scientific writing and grant development experience, Master's degree in business and/or health related field and nursing license preferred.
