GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES – The Clinical Documentation (CDI) Liaison is responsible for the interface between facility based Clinical Documentation Specialists and the HSC coding staff. The liaison works with all facilities to improve the accuracy, integrity and quality of patient data, to ensure minimal variation in coding practices and improve the quality of physician documentation within the body of the medical record to support code assignments. The Clinical Documentation Liaison plans, assigns and coordinates the communication and validation of correct coding; actively monitors the CDI mailbox, responds to queries submitted to the mailbox; prepares and distributes monthly CDI dashboard and query trend reports; conducts site visits to facilities to provide education and guidance to improve quality physician documentation.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: · Provides oversight of the CDI Mailbox in the management of coding data quality and education processes, to include quality post billing coding reviews and education to CDI and coding staff.
· Prepares monthly data analysis of query trends and CDI Dashboard.
· Manages expectations and ensures service is delivered accordingly.
· Proactively manages (including corresponding communications and escalation paths) significant issues in coding, DRG assignment and Query trends related to CDI communication.
· Promptly reports issues or trends to the appropriate member of the HSC Leadership team, or other appropriate party
· Maintains up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes impacting coding requirements.
· Coordinates training and education for coders and facility based CDI staff when trends are identified.
· Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”
· Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION · Undergraduate degree in Health Information Management. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE · Minimum 3 years coding management/leadership experience required
· Minimum 5 years recent inpatient hospital coding experience required
