Atkins is currently seeking candidates for a California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)/ National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Planner position to join our San Diego office. The Atkins environmental team prepares environmental documentation for a wide variety of projects including planning documents (general plans and specific plans), master planned communities, residential, commercial, industrial, mixed-use, schools/colleges/universities, parks and recreational facilities, medical facilities, and utilities/infrastructure facilities. Over the past ten years, the Atkins San Diego office has won over 20 awards from the Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP), both at the state and local chapter levels. Most recently, we won the Outstanding Environmental Analysis award for the Escondido General Plan Update/Downtown Specific Plan Update/Climate Action Plan Environmental Impact Report (EIR) at the October 2012 San Diego AEP Awards Banquet. Primary duties include, but not limited to:
Conduct research and author documents in conformance with CEQA and NEPA. Includes preparation of EIRs, Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Mitigated Negative Declarations (MNDs), and related environmental documentation such as public notices, responses to comments, Findings of Fact and Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Programs (MMRPs).
Research duties may include online database or regulatory agency searches, field surveys, and technical document reviews.
As part of document preparation duties, perform critical thinking tasks in impact analysis and other evaluation-related studies.
Assist with technical report preparation and regulatory permitting, as needed.
Task management duties include coordination with technical experts and agency staff, adherence to project budgets and timelines, and interaction with clients.
Collaboration with other environmental and engineering staff to perform CEQA and NEPA-related document preparation services. Job Details
We are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:
Two to five years professional experience preparing environmental documents in support of CEQA or NEPA, including EIRs, EAs, and MNDs, and related environmental documents.
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Biology or a related field. Graduate degree is desirable.
Must have excellent writing, research and communication skills.
General knowledge of the numerous environmental issues associated with CEQA and NEPA documentation.
Experience working with public agencies, the general public and technical specialists.
Candidates with experience in the California consulting industry are preferred.
Proposal and business development experience also a plus.
There is no relocation funding available for this position, we are seeking candidates in the San Diego market only. Also, you must have current US work authorization to work for any US employer without requiring sponsorship now or at any time in the future.
