Monitor Southwest Airlines operational control.
Monitor compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
Monitor efficient use of fuel.
Ensure completion of scheduled service.
Ensure "POS" functions of Dispatch.
Coordinate communications and consult with Chief Pilots, Captains, and Dispatchers.
Provide leadership and managerial guidance to Dispatch department to ensure Southwest flight movements, cancellations, diversions, equipment routings and crew reassignments are operated and maintained efficiently.
Ensure consistency of Dispatch procedures and enhance operational efficiency.
Assist the Director of Dispatch in directing Southwest Airlines daily operations.
Fills in for and acts as the Director of Dispatch as needed.
Has the authority to establish and modify all policies, procedures and training pertaining to the Dispatch function.
Evaluates the space provided for the number of people working in the Operation Center to ensure the temperature, lighting and noise level are conducive to effective Employee performance.
Ensures access to the Operations Center is controlled.
Approves visitors to the Operations Center.
Oversees the distribution of workload.
Monitors and audits Dispatcher Duty / Rest time process to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
Oversees the scheduling of Dispatchers.
Is available when designated as the afterhours on-call person.
Oversees the Dispatcher, Superintendent, Specialist and Assistant Dispatcher duties.
Audits Employee job performance to ensure accuracy and compliance with Company policies and government regulations.
Work with the Superintendents of Dispatch to develop operational game plans.
Oversees the daily shift brief and Morning Operational ( MOM ) meetings.
Participates in the Weather Disruption Task Force.
Ensures restriction or suspension of Operations in hazardous conditions.
Participates in the implementation of the Emergency Response Plan.
Attends government and industry meetings to develop new processes.
Develops and coordinates changes to the Flight Operations Manual.
Communicates changes in policy to the Dispatchers through the creation and distribution of Read before Dispatch bulletins.
Composes and publishes operational information to the Weather Packet cover page.
Participates in the training of Pilots and Operations Agents through New Hire and Captain upgrade training.
Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders.
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
EDUCATION (Level, and degree if applicable)
Must have a High School diploma or equivalency.
College coursework or degree preferred.
1-2 years Leadership experience required.
5 years Dispatch experience with a part 121 carrier.
International dispatch experience preferred.
FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate required.
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.
Must be able to work well with others as part of a Team.
Excellent people skills: Team Player.
Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills in support of a large operational staff.
Must be able to work under tight time constraints and stressful and/or emergency situations.
In-depth knowledge of Southwest Airlines Dispatch procedures.
Must be available to work varying hours.
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
