Job Summary: (position maybe remote)

The EHR Alliance Clinical Architect provides support and coordination of activities designed to enhance the content and functionality of the Dignity Health enterprise clinical information system. The Clinical Architect provides guidance in the integration of clinical content; workflow, and operational processes into the Enterprise Standard, and knowledge into informatics solutions that optimize the functionality, implementation, and benefits realization of EHR Alliance program. The Clinical Architect coordinates planning activities on the leveraged team in support of content required to meet local requirements including needs assessment, documentation of requirements, and design of content in support of clinical processes.

The Clinical Architect participates with facility and project leadership to assure successful adoption of new functionality for EHR Alliance and related applications and initiatives.

The Clinical Architect will directly interface with IT’s internal customers the Director, Manager and staff levels.

Accountabilities:
  • Provides support to each of the project teams for the design and development of the Dignity Health model (standardized Dignity Health content) as it evolves over time
  • Manages the integration of product lines and any conflict between EHR Alliance project teams, team members and the facilities
  • Guides and mentors facility Directors, managers and clinical staff, and translates clinical systems functionality into desired outcomes and evidenced-based practice
  • Supports the EHR Alliance functional planning process; including needs assessment, regulatory requirements, and new clinical service requirements, involving key stakeholders and utilizing structured analysis methods for planning
  • Assists in development of disaster recovery and downtime strategies for clinical operations in times of need
  • Insures protocol compliance relative to data collection and scientific methodology. Provides expert analytical expertise to current workflow processes
  • Assists in the development of process and operational redesign recommendations leading to a solution and/or functional system requirements
  • Participates in application development decisions
  • Secures and reports user input in design development. Incorporates appropriate financial, technical and human resources availability into design process
  • Provides clinical support and direction in all phases of the project plan including the development of policies and procedures, system testing, conversion planning,
  • Provides guidance and support in the collection and reporting of metrics defining benefits realization, operational efficiencies, and return on investment associated with Clinical Information Systems and recommending changes to the informatics solution as needed
  • Communicates functional priorities, design techniques, issues, and issues resolution to key stakeholders
  • With others, promotes continuity of the clinical computing environment and application functionality in accordance with the intended design as deployed from facility to facility
  • Assists facility clinical leadership and site operation leads at each facility in coordination of project resources for robust systems support
  • Monitors application use, system performance, hardware reliability, and software stability
  • Captures, defines, and prioritizes pre and post implementation issues
  • Reports and participates in the problem solving of issues that impact locally and enterprise performance
  • Communicates effectively and contributes to positive interdepartmental relationships particularly between technical staff and the clinical staff
  • Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate
  • Takes immediate action to meet customer / user requests or needs
  • Coordinates the implementation such that, patient confidentiality, and security are in accordance with the organization’s policy and procedures
  • Collaborates with health care professionals to insure appropriate, effective usage and understanding of the system in the context of departmental workflow
  • Builds relationships with peers, and staff
  • Is able to insure accountability relative to timelines, work product in support of reporting metrics and protocol compliance
  • Uses a problem solving approach to resolve job-related issues
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and Dignity Health information, communications and documents
  • Provides assistance relative to technical skill sets for staff and incorporates them into the associated training
  • Demonstrates extraordinary customer relations and quality service and dedication to providing the highest quality of service to our clinicians and patients
  • Supports the efficient and effective operations of Clinical Information Systems and in the promotion of effective user adoption and success in deployment of these systems

Specifications:
Experience

Minimum Required:
  • 3 years experience in a clinical area: nursing, laboratory, radiology, rehab or related area
  • 3 years of clinical, healthcare systems implementation, and/or experience in progressively responsible positions
  • 3 years working with clinical information systems implementations
  • 2 years of experience working in systems design, support and/or systems implementation
Preferred/Desired:
  • 2 years experience working with a large vendor implementation strongly recommended. Experience with Meditech preferred
Education

Minimum Required:
  • Clinical degree in related field or equivalent professional experience
Preferred/Desired:
  • Graduate degree in clinical area, computer science, informatics, information systems, or a related field equivalency
Special Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of the healthcare information systems life cycle
  • Knowledge of inpatient and outpatient care environments and workflow processes
  • Computer literacy (use of computer technology to accomplish tasks) and information literacy (ability to recognize, locate, evaluate, and use information appropriately)
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to translate complex concepts to naïve computer users and various levels of personnel from executives to end-users
  • Ability to create effective interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to resolve conflict and negotiate compromise solutions where necessary
  • Expert analytical skills
  • Knowledge and skills in formal systems analysis techniques
  • Knowledge and skills in formal clinical systems implementation techniques and implementation best practices
  • Knowledge about CPOE best practices preferred
  • Knowledge and skills in gathering and prioritizing user requirements and change requests
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a complex and matrixed team environment; experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule, and meet deadlines
  • Possesses the ability to provide sound and reliable judgment, take initiative, and accomplish task with minimal supervision in complex situations
Travel

Significant travel will be required to IT Corporate Operations in Phoenix and various Dignity Health hospitals. Travel may occupy as much as 75% of the time spent in this position.
