Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse, assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to acutely ill patients, and assists with the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
Is able to perform general nurse assistant duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
Performs clerical and receptionist duties on a nursing unit.
Answers telephone and intercom.
Enters data, orders, and other patient information to generate requisitions.
Assists charge nurse with coordination of unit activities.
Organizes and maintains chart materials, forms, office supplies, etc.
High school graduate or equivalent. Current listing on the Nurse Aide registry in
. Successful completion of basic BCLS. Required ability to receive and follow instructions and/or directions. Can work independently under the direction of the registered nurse. Concentration may be frequently broken.
Must be flexible and able to prioritize. Needs to be able to work at a steady, often hectic, pace sometimes for the entire shift.
Medical Secretary or medical terminology course preferred.
Computer training preferred. Ability to read and communicate in English.
Additional languages preferred.
Knowledge of clinical departments of the hospital.
Prior hospital/health care experience preferred.
