Under general direction of the CNO, assumes line responsibility and authority for the administrative direction, evaluation and coordination of the functions and activities of assigned departments within the hospital organization to ensure operating objectives and results are in accordance with overall hospital needs.The Associate Chief Nursing Officer in the CNO Development Program will develop leadership, business management, and other skills necessary to advance to a CNO role in the organization under the leadership of the mentoring CNO. In the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer, represents the Chief Nursing Officer and assumes responsibility for the entire scope of the Chief Nursing Officer's responsibilities.

Participates in assigned activities in conjunction with the CNO Development Program. Including attending all educational activities as required.

Provides administrative support for the operations of assigned departments and appraises the performance of respective department heads, including authority to hire and dismiss subject to the approval of the Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Executive Officer.

Communicates routinely with the Chief Nursing Operating Officer/Chief Executive Officer concerning policy recommendations and suggested courses of action pertinent to the efficient operation of assigned departments and clinical operation. Implements new policies and disseminates pertinent information following administrative directives.

Recommends improvement in hospital operations in assigned areas, including clinical and nonclinical operations.

Promotes complete involvement of department head in the preparation of the department's budget and educates them in the importance of the budget, forecasting and planning process. Advises and makes recommendations to the Chief Nursing Operating Officer/Chief Executive Officer concerning budgeting, cost and financial matters.

Encourages and assists department heads in establishing a measure of performance, increased productivity, quality improvement, cost controls and maximum utilization of facilities. Advises Chief Nursing Operating Officer/Chief Executive Officer where executive action is necessary to accomplish these goals. Plans the activities of individual departments in relation to other hospital departments so as to obtain a better understanding of each other's problems.

Attends medical staff meetings and/or medical staff committee meetings as assigned or requested. Informs the Chief Nursing Operating Officer/Chief Executive Officer of proceedings at meetings attended and recommends action, as necessary. Represents the hospital and nursing by membership in related professional associations.

Participates in all activities required in the Executive Development Program, which includes but is not limited to attendance at all quarterly educational seminars. Completes competency-tracking document by designated deadline.

Regularly updates the of the AVP of the Executive Development Program, or designee, regarding progress on projects, activities and professional development or any issues, etc. which may be a hindrance.

In the absence of the Chief Nursing Operating Officer represents the Chief Nursing Operating Officer in the coordination of portions of the hospital organization, speaking and acting within the scope of objectives set forth in the practice and/or policy of the hospital.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Currently hold an active registered nurse license in the United States or territories without restrictions.

Geographic flexibility - MUST be willing to relocate upon entering the program and to fulfill commitment of a CNO role.

Minimum of a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and an advanced degree (Masters level or above) in a health related field completed or currently enrolled with an expected completion within 2 years of program entry. Advanced degree completion is not required prior to start of program.

Advanced Degree exceptions are made for applicants WITHOUT a Bachelors of Science in Nursing if enrolled in a RN to MSN Bridge Program.

Minimum of 5 years leadership and management experience in nursing and hospital operations. Most recent 3 of the last 5 years of leadership must be in a leadership role in a hospital setting preferably direct patient care environment.

Knowledge of professional nursing principals and practices, and managerial skills typically acquired with at least 5+ years of management or supervisory experience.

Demonstrated evidence or potential of superior leadership, interpersonal, business management and communication skills

(both verbal and written)

Current employee of HCA with at least one year of service "completed" at the time of application.

Comfortable usage of Microsoft Office tools
