Position Description

Develop, negotiate, issue and execute Service Contracts and/or Work Directives for
Engineering / Operations/ Other Departments for Procurement’s designated customers.

Identify and execute contracts, work directives, purchase orders, etc. based on customer
needs, including, but not limited to:
•Identifying suppliers of services
•Managing the Request for Proposal / Bidding / Negotiation processes
•Compiling the data in a manner that is comparable (decision making)
•Collecting, retaining, and executing the relevant contract, work directive, purchase order,
•Adhering to Company Policies / Procedures / Guidelines / Record Retention
Listen attentively to Customer / Management requests to identify expectations and execute
upon given expectations
Communicate clearly and concisely (verbal and written) through all media types: in person,
by telephone, and in email
Work independently to manage tasks and time-lines
Ensure adequate Scopes of Work are in place for all agreements and/or work directives
Ensure there is proper 1) business case, 2) risk management, and 3) compliance components
in place for each contract
Ensure for each agreement that procedures are followed for integrity of:
•Company Contract Management Database (Upside or equivalent)
•Pre‐qualification Safety Questionnaire (ISNetworld or equivalent)
•DOT Qualification where required (NCMS or equivalent)
•OQ Qualification where required (Company Database or equivalent)
•Insurance Certificates (ISNetworld or equivalent)
•Contract execution & documentation
•Company Expenditure Authority Review (EAR)
Develop and measure cost savings through Cost Recovery Program (CRP)
Input and maintain necessary data in company ERP system and participate in testing
Promote Procurement services throughout the organization
Promote and embody Kinder Morgan Core Values
Assist customers in meeting the objectives of cost control, quality, and schedule
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external customers
Interface with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism
Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and high level of performance
Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and
the general public
Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined
May be required to work non‐traditional hours

Position Requirements


•Undergraduate degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting, or a related field, from an
accredited institution, is required
•Minimum five (5) years of direct work experience in Purchasing, Contract Management,
Pipeline Operations, or engineering may be accepted in lieu of a degree

•In addition to the degree requirement (or degree substitute), must have at least 5 years
direct or active work experience in Purchasing, Pipeline Operations, Business Operations, Engineering, or Project Management
•Must have knowledge of services contract law, terms and conditions
•Familiarity with industry‐related commodities and strong understanding of Engineering

•Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and a driving record satisfactory to the
company and its insurers (for travel)

•Demonstrates Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft applications (including but
not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) for the purpose of word processing,
presentations, spreadsheets and information retrieval
•Capable of taking lead role with Management and Legal on issues affecting Contract
•Strong interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills required
•Well‐developed written and verbal communication skills
•Analytical skills associated with developing and utilizing performance measures and cost
•Problem solving skills, including logical thought processes, with the ability to resolve
complex issues
•Self‐motivated with the ability to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks,
meet multiple deadlines, and work with minimal direct supervision
•Ability to organize, schedule and prioritize workload to meet various schedules and
objectives on short notice
•Ability to resolve conflict in a win‐win manner
•Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details,
follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules
•Prioritize and manage contract load; being timely with new contracts and renewals
•Adhere to performance expectations as defined by the Procurement Department and
•Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job

•Travel is required and anticipated up to 20% time away from the assigned work location and
across a broad geographic region (U.S. coast to coast and Canadian provinces); motor vehicle
and air travel anticipated
•Based in Kinder Morgan’s Houston headquarters office
•Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets
•The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background
check, including credit check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed

•This is not a supervisory position

PREFERRED Education, Experience, Certifications, Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
•Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) designation is preferred
•Experience with Lawson
