SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Self-Directed Work Team

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: The purpose of this position is to maintain the highest quality standards in customer service, graphic design, and the brand identity of ASQ in a team environment. These standards are to be maintained with equal importance and none should be considered less significant than the other. This position works closely with customers, suppliers, and fellow department staff in providing creative graphic products and services that meet or exceed the expectations of the customer and the mission of ASQ. This position supports and fosters a self-directed work environment while maintaining an emphasis on the success of the team.

This individual will provide design for various media—Web, digital/mobile, and print—that meets the current needs and anticipates the future needs of the organization. The Web/digital/print design responsibilities include information and project scope gathering, design and layout for various media types, recommending options and considering best practices to achieve a brand-compliant design. Requirements for Web jobs include analytics and usability, front-end design and development, quality assurance, and troubleshooting. Responsibilities for digital and print include information and project scope gathering, digital and print design skills, formatting for the final output medium, quality assurance, and troubleshooting.

SKILLS: WEB—Demonstrated skill coding XHTML/HTML5 and CSS/CSS3 and managing Web-based multimedia and graphics. Advanced skill in front-end Web design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, and Visual Studio. Motivated, with a strong desire to learn/apply new and emerging technologies. Practical experience and understanding of language scripts such as JavaScript, jQuery, and jQuery plugins and experience with seamless integration of front- to back-end functionality. Practical exposure and/or experience with some or all of the following: Java, XML, ASP.NET, Oracle, MS SQL Server, IIS, and Windows Server Environments. Technical trouble-shooting aptitude and knowledge of cross-browser issues. Solid understanding of Web standards, best practices, and navigation. DIGITAL/PRINT—Demonstrated ability to design for interactive publications, mobile devices and tablets, and print—multi-purposing creative to the various formats. Strong design skills and ability to follow and stay within brand guidelines. Advanced skills in all Adobe Creative Suite products—InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. GENERAL—Demonstrated design and layout skills for the various media types, organizational skills, strong work ethic and communication skills, understanding of quality principles, customer focus, and teamwork and partnering skills. Individual should be deadline oriented, with strong follow-through skills, and should demonstrate a capacity for embracing change.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Web design and interactive media, or related field. Certification(s) in Web design software packages is desirable.

EXPERIENCE: Three years PC/Mac experience including two years in Web/digital/print design. Two years of Web usability and requirements-gathering experience. Two years in a corporate setting.

1.Requirements Gathering: Gather requirements and scope of projects proposed by internal and external customers. Understand the needs of audience and ASQ’s brand guidelines.
2.Remain current with industry trends and techniques.
3.Analytics and Usability: Identify improvements, paying close attention to Web usability standards and best practices. Provide analytical, technical, and usability expertise in the implementation of front-end Web solutions and user interface.
4.Creatively and technically apply your knowledge of design in the various fields. For Web, facilitate the design and implementation of front-end application interfaces, portal software interfaces, and interactive forums and/or portlets. Analytics and Usability—Identify improvements, paying close attention to Web usability standards and best practices. Provide analytical, technical, and usability expertise in the implementation of front-end Web solutions and user interface. Develop and create Web-based graphics and illustrations to support all ASQ digital media. Lead and/or support the development of the UX/UI for ASQ mobile applications and other digital media. Provide input and direction of current Web-related best practices with the Creative Services (CS) workgroup and associated working teams.
5.Provide quality customer service. This position works closely with the customer in the development and production of communication materials that meet or exceed the customer's marketing, budgeting, and scheduling expectations.
6.Responsible, with team, for workgroup management activities: business planning and budgeting; policy and procedure recommendations; workgroup and individual performance management, including hiring, training, teambuilding, coaching, reward and recognition; and quality improvement. Collaborate with CS team members and Web developers to carry through the implementation of projects on time and within budget.
7.Perform other duties as assigned by Self-Directed Work Team or the assigned Managing Director.

1.Internal – Frequent interaction with ASQ internal partners and teams; a member of the Creative Services self-directed workgroup and a key stakeholder in ASQ’s Web presence.
2.External – Occasional contact with contracted suppliers.

1.Planning and scheduling. Manage projects; some projects are society-wide in scope.
2.Budgeting and forecasting. With the workgroup team, manage and analyze workgroup plans and costs.
3.Responsibility for establishing objectives, policies, or standards. With the workgroup, recommend policies and procedures for improving Web design services and website.
4.Impact of decisions. With the workgroup, accountable for the quality of and customer satisfaction with creative services and products. Directly impacts website-generated revenue and customer satisfaction.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervisory responsibilities shared equally by all team members.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Day-to-day activities performed independently but within a team environment. Cooperates with self-directed work team, with direction from the assigned Managing Director.
