Under general direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Associate Chief Operating Officer (ACOO) assumes line responsibility and authority for the administrative direction, evaluation and coordination of the functions and activities of assigned departments (when appropriate) within the hospital organization to ensure operating objectives and results are in accordance with overall hospital needs.

Participates in assigned activities in conjunction with the COO Development Program.

Provides administrative support for the operations of assigned departments and appraises the performance of respective department heads, including authority to hire and dismiss subject to the approval of the CEO and COO.

Communicates routinely with the CEO and COO concerning policy recommendations and suggested courses of action pertinent to efficient operations of assigned departments.

Implements new policies and disseminates pertinent information following administrative directives.

Recommends improvement of hospital facilities in assigned areas, including construction of renovation of structures and purchase of new equipment.

Promotes complete involvement of department head in the preparation of the department's budget and educates staff of the importance of the budget, forecasting and planning process. Advises and makes recommendations to the CEO and COO concerning budgeting, cost and financial matters.

Encourages and assists department heads in increased productivity, quality improvement, cost controls and maximum utilization of facilities. Advises CEO and COO where executive action is necessary to accomplish these goals.

Attends medical staff meetings as assigned or requested. Informs the CEO and COO of proceedings at meetings attended and recommends action, as necessary.

Participates in all activities required in the Executive Development Program, which includes but not limited to attendance at all educational seminars, completion of development plans and any scheduled updates.

Regularly updates Executive Development Program leadership regarding progress on projects, activities, professional development or any issues in relation to personal and professional development.

In the absence of the CEO and COO and/or as assigned, represents the CEO and COO in the coordination of the entire or portions of the hospital organization, speaking and acting within the scope of objectives set forth in the hospital policies.

Mandatory participation and travel to leadership training, conferences, development programs, etc… totaling approximately 5-6 weeks the first year, and 2-3 weeks the following years

Represents the hospital by membership in related professional associations.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completed MBA, MHA or health-related advanced degree, from an accredited college/university.

Minimum of 2 years of leadership and management experience in the healthcare industry or experience equivalent to an administrative residency or fellowship program of at least 2 years in healthcare.

Geographic flexibility - MUST be willing to relocate upon entering the program and to fulfill commitment of a COO role.

Demonstrated evidence or potential of superior leadership, interpersonal, business management and communication skills

(both verbal and written).

Comfortable usage of Microsoft Office tools with excellent communication skills.
