Summary of Responsibilities

The Surgical Intensivist is a member of the ICU and Step-down team who oversees and directs the care of patients on a 12 bed intensive care unit (ICU). The incumbent applicant must be board-eligible or board-certified with added qualifications in critical care, and will have demonstrated a track record of excellence in clinical care. He/she will be assigned to the ICU and work with the critical care management team to provide patients with high quality, continuous and consistent care. This position coordinates the clinical care of the surgery patients and collaborates with the medical service on the care of their patients. The Surgical Intensivist will be expected to be proficient in ICU procedures and skills including, but not limited to: Insertion and monitoring of central lines and chest tubes, ventilatory management, transfusion medicine, wound management, and management of patients with unstable cardio-pulmonary status and sepsis. Additionally will be expected to work closely and collaborate with the Medical Intensivist.

Education & Experience
The successful candidate will have completed a residency in General Surgery or anesthesia and be fellowship-trained in Critical Care or Trauma/Critical Care. The candidate must be able to be a team player and have the ability to build an excellent rapport with the Surgical specialties served as well as with Anesthesia, MICU and CCU
