** This position is a GRANT-FUNDED, 75% part-time position located in the Montrose County Extension Office, Colorado. This position has grant funding that is guaranteed only for ONE YEAR . This position will work a total of 30 hours per week on a part-time basis .**

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) provides a community based nutrition education program in Arapahoe County to limited income youth and families with young children to improve diet quality and become effective managers of food resources.

Description of Job:

This is a grant funded one-year position that exists to serve as an entry level community worker. This grant-funded one-year position that exists to recruit limited resource families and youth to participate in SNAP-Ed classes; teach classes in practical nutrition, food safety and food budgeting using assigned materials that provide research-based, activity-oriented, culturally appropriate lessons in group settings; and to refer eligible families to other food assistance and health programs.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Travel, using personal transportation to teach nutrition, food safety, and food resource management to limited income adults and youth of diverse backgrounds using an established core curriculum and cooking demonstrations. Use defined teaching methods as learned in training and materials for group and occasional individual teaching lessons. Some classes may have to be conducted in evenings and on weekends. Includes transporting educational materials, client records, demonstration supplies, teaching tools, and/or small equipment, which occasionally exceed LIGHT physical demands, and other supplies as needed.
- Travel, using personal transportation, to recruit, enroll and maintain eligible participants in SNAP-Ed following standard eligibility guidelines. Utilize and maintain contacts along with supervisor with human service agencies, health organizations, schools and other application sources for purpose of enrollment.
- Compile and submit records and standard reports to document time, mileage, adult & youth program participation and accomplishments. Documentation to include requirements of the SNAp-Ed reporting system, Extension, Montrose County and Colorado State University.
- Work with supervisor to communicate and collaborate with agencies serving same or similar audiences to establish SNAP-Ed classes and meet audience needs. Refer program participants to other appropriate human service and USDA programs as mandated by the U.S. Senate Mandate.
- Travel, using personal auto, to attend SNAP-Ed meetings and SNAP-Ed trainings, occasionally out of county and overnight. Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- Works with supervisor to recruit, train, coordinate and monitor performance of volunteers and/or paid part-time staff on an as need basis.
And other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions and Conditions of Employment:

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Federal funding guidelines require us to hire paraprofessionals in this position. We hire from the audience we serve. Community worker I is an entry level position that requires no more than either a GED or high school diploma and no experience in the field.

Substitutions
Two years of relevant experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Highly Desired Qualifications
The highly successful candiate will possess the following desired qualifications:
· At least 4-6 months experience working as an EFNEP or SNAP-Ed educator including: o Attended CSU EFNEP and SNAP-Ed New educator training (4 weeks long)
o Experience working with agencies that target low income families for recruitment into the EFNEP or SNAP-Ed programs
o Experience teaching the Eating Smart Being Active curriculum to groups and/or individuals that qualify for the EFNEP or SNAP-Ed programs
· At least 4-6 months experience working with CSU extension at the county level
· Good communication skills demonstrated by experience in the area of teaching nutrition education to low income audiences
· Good communication skills demonstrated by experience in the area of recruiting individuals to take nutrition education classes
· Good customer service skills demonstrated by experience in the area of recruiting and teaching nutrition education classes
· Ideally, the candidate will be able to r ead, write and speak fluently in both English and Spanish

Conditions of Employment:
-Must submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
- Must possess a current valid state of Colorado Driver's License
- Due to the nature of this work and travel requirements for the position: Must use own car safely and have insurance.
- Demonstrated competencies include:
The ability to self manage, self direct own activities without continuous supervision. Must be trustworthy and have demonstrated excellent people skills due to the nature of the work.
- Must meet job's physical demands, including: lifting up to 20 pounds, carrying, walking, climbing stairs.
- Must be willing and able to travel regularly, within counties and participate in occasional out of county and/or overnight travel.
