Performance Planning The Cardiology Manager manages and coordinates the clinical and other unit activities on the patient in order to provide quality patient care, coordinates nursing care practices, demonstrates leadership abilities in dealing with staff and others, and evaluates practice.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Evaluates patient census/acuity to determine staffing plans on a daily, weekly, and annual basis to meet patient care needs; communicates needs to staffing secretary.
  • Collaborates the planning, annual revision, and implementation of unit/departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Maintains employee contact by meeting with staff members on their shifts on a regular basis.
  • Regularly attends hospital and medical staff assigned committees.
  • Establishes and revises unit/department specific standards of practice/care; ensures uniform patient care processes.
  • Ensures continuity of patient care, patient teaching, discharge planning, and staff competency specific to the needs and age of the patient population served.
  • Assures compliance with various quality standards and regulatory agency requirements within the Medical Center (JCAHO Credentialing, Standards of Nursing Practice, Structural Indicators etc.)
  • Plans, recommends, implements, and evaluates the annual operational and capital budget in a timely manner.
  • Analyzes monthly financial statements and completes variance reports in a timely manner. Assures financial accountability for the unit/department to include staffing, supply cost and overtime.
  • Monitors utilizations of overtime. Consistently meets the hospital-wide goal for OT utilization.
  • Interviews and hires all personnel in the unit; accurately maintains unit position control.
  • Continually evaluates the attitudes, morale and interpersonal relationships of staff members; promotes methods to improve in these areas; consistently motivates staff in a positive manner.
  • Maintains clinical proficiency, required certifications, possesses strong clinical judgement.
  • Assures staff attend all mandatory educational offerings.
  • Attends educational offering related to Performance Improvement, Management and other related topics as needed.
  • Evaluates performance of staff and completes evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Provides for a safe environment for staff members, patients, and visitors.
  • Reacts and responds to crisis/problem situations in an appropriate manner.
    • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
    • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
    • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required Registered Nurse with current Alabama License, previous experience performing duties equal to Assistant Nurse Manager, leadership and management skills, at least 2 years supervisory experience. BSN Degree required. Cardiology experience preferred. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

    Working Conditions Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with

    frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Is able to push stretcher/wheelchair with average adult patient. Is able to do frequent stooping and on occasion crouching, crawling or kneeling. Ability to

    reach reasonable distances in any direction. Ability to run in emergency situations. Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner. Must have ability to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape and size

    with fingertips. Physical presence onsite is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
