A credentialed non-licensed health care provider employed by Erlanger Health Care System is responsible for direct and indirect care of patients in the CARDIAC SHORT STAY. Provide care for patients from other areas of the hospital when requested. Provide services under direct nursing supervision such as sheath removal. Perform duties relevant to the cardiac catheterization lab, interventional radiology, and other outpatient procedures areas. Assist RNs in cardiac emergencies and management of groin complications. Vital signs, phlebotomy, shave prep,sheath removal and perform 12 lead ekgs, as well as providing other patient needs.
Required: High School education or equivalent. Required to meet one of the following: Completed Certified Nursing Assistant course and passed certification exam, Completed First Responder Course, Completed EMT program, Nursing student having completed Fundamentals of Nursing, Completed Medical Assistant Program, Pre-Med student, Military Corpsman, Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic or Completed Surgical Tech program. Any of these may apply and work in a Patient Care Tech/Cardiovascular Tech position, but must function within the guidelines, skills, and pay grade outlined for the Patient Care Tech.
Those who were employed as a Patient Care Tech/Cardiovascular Tech prior to 3-1-2004 and do not have the above educational requirements will be grandfathered in as a Patient Care Tech. He/She must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.
Preferred: Prior Credentialling for Sheath Removal
Preferred: Hospital and cardiac experience preferred

Department Position Summary:
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the CARDIAC SHORT STAY of Erlanger Health Systems. The employee is responsible for direct and indirect care. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described as described in the Cardiac Short Stay Unit's policies and procedures. The employee will provide care for patients from the cath lab, radiology department, and patients awaiting appropriate bed assignment.
