As a Caterpillar Switchgear/ATS Regional Sales Manager, you will consult with Cat dealers to market Caterpillar Electric Power generator paralleling switchgear and Automatic Transfer Switch products and assist in the development of dealer sales capability. This position is geared to an experienced individual contributor. Job duties are complex, challenging, and strategic in nature.
Job Duties/ Assignments:
Sales liaison among dealers, customers and other Caterpillar personnel. You should be very familiar with the company’s processes, systems and methodologies accountable for contributing to the identification, analysis and resolution of needs and problems in the Electric Power industry. You will be performing complex analysis work, identifying and resolving problems that are less tactical and more strategic in nature. Challenges include developing and meeting Cat Switchgear/ATS sales results, specification interpretation and quote development, and educating the Electric Power marketplace on the benefits of the Cat Switchgear/ATS system offering. You will work more directly with other Caterpillar units, customers, and possibly suppliers.
Counseling dealers in developing increased human performance capability; providing guidance on existing and potential customer service issues and improvement measures within an industry; assisting dealers on forecast, sales strategy planning and sales techniques; supporting rollout of new products (eg., products, parts, customer service agreements, other service products); analyzing and communicating marketplace and competitive activity to Caterpillar personnel and dealers; analyzing product application, configuration and utilization that provide the best solution for a customer; assisting dealers with business planning within the Electric Power industry; creating and promoting programs that increase sales while maximizing price realization; and continuing to develop required proficiency level in the specified foundation competencies and skills.
Provide sales/marketing coverage directly to key consulting engineers and end users with the goal of providing electrical system design/value engineering expertise. A key part of the role is also educating less experienced personnel on the generator paralleling switchgear market.
Developmental and continual learning will be directed through experience and staying abreast of technology changes in the generator controls and switchgear market. Key learning comes from continued experience in the Electric Power industry, enhancing communication and people relationship skills, improving problem solving and analysis capability. You must stay abreast of industry and technology changes and relate those changes to Caterpillar, dealer and customer needs.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
A bachelor’s degree in an accredited Marketing or Engineering curriculum. Electrical Engineering preferred.
8+ years prior experience in electrical system design and/or application engineering and sales, preferably in the mission critical space (data centers, healthcare, etc)
Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate effectively and work on increasingly more complex assignments. Mentoring/leadership capabilities will also be key.
Must be willing to travel extensively (50-70%) as well as relocate based upon business needs.
Understanding of Dealer distribution or business-to-business marketing a plus.
