Required: High School Diploma and minimum of one year job-related experience. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. CCS certification required with at least 1 year in-patient coding experience. Or, 2 years in-patient coding experience will be accepted without CCS certification that must be attained within 1 year from date of hire.

Specialized training in medical terminology, ICD-9-CM coding. Ability to decipher operative reports, medication orders & various medical records in the appropriate selection of codes. Experience in acute care coding in-patient records. To appropriately analyze and code records.

Proficiency is required in coding of in-patient records. Preferred: Course work in Anatomy and Physiology and knowledge of CPT codes. Hours: 40 control hours.
