Non-exempt; on-call; varied days and shifts; no-benefits

This position is responsible for administering medication to Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center residents and performing related tasks. Supervision is received from the charge nurse.

Examples of Work:
  • Measure and administer oral and topical medicines
  • Report any change in residents' physical condition
  • Check and record residents' temperature, pulse and respiration
  • Care for residents' rooms, bathrooms and dining area
  • Assist with meal service
  • Accompany residents to and from medical appointments and other activities
  • Communicate directly with pharmacy to order medication as necessary
  • Maintain medication cart with all physician ordered medications, inventory and order new meds as needed
  • Return unused medications to pharmacy per facility and pharmacy protocol
  • Assist with Activities of Daily living for residents when necessary; all CMA’s may provide hands on care to residents
  • Administer and document administration of routine narcotics
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Current Medicine Aide certification issued by the MD State Board of Nursing
  • Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) registration issued by the MD State Board of Nursing - attach copy of this registration to your employment application form - may consider equivalent certification from another state
  • Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to follow spoken/written instructions and the ability to accurately record medical information and maintain related records
  • Ability to work with sensitive, personal information and maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with elderly/disabled residents and their family members, co-workers and other medical professionals, and the general public, with special sensitivity toward the needs and priorities of elderly individuals
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift, move and assist residents as needed; assist residents into/out of vehicles; move/carry medical equipment or parcels; and perform other duties as listed above
  • This position and the physical workplace may include exposure to air contaminants, hazardous chemicals, infectious waste, diseases and medical conditions, etc. (e.g. Tuberculosis, AIDS virus, Hepatitis B virus, etc.)

  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Work experience as a nursing assistant or other aide to persons who are elderly or disabled
  • Dementia care experience

Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Available for duty on any day including weekends and holidays, and available for other shifts as needed
  • This position is subject to random drug testing
  • Specified certification/registry must be renewed and maintained throughout employment
  • Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center is a tobacco free facility; smoking is not allowed on the campus
