The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs services to meet the personal care and comfort needs of the client under the direct supervision of the RN/LPN. He/She utilizes the client Plan of Care to determine client needs. The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to clients in the areas of: daily hygiene, toileting, feeding, moving safely to activities/functions, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the client's environment.

The ideal candidate for this position must have a high school diploma/GED and additional training required prior to certification, must be certified as a Nursing Assistant in this state, has one to two years relevant experience (desired), and must have a current, unrestricted driver's license in this state.

The following is a representative list of duties and responsibilities associated with this position:
-- Follow all client care plans and approaches
-- Assist client with daily hygiene to include: bathing/showering, shampooing and styling hair, shaving, oral/teeth-denture cleaning, nail care, and applying lotions
-- Assist client in dressing i.e. dressed for the day, dressed to go out, dressed for bedtime
-- Assist client in toileting with bedpans, urinals, diapers, Texas Catheters, and routine catheter care
-- Take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate) height, and weight as ordered or whenever necessary
-- Assist with the self administration of medications by reminding or offering pills in a medication box
-- Prepare meals at clients home and encourage clients to follow their prescribed diets
-- Provide between-meal nourishment
-- Assist client at mealtime to include, feeding assistance as necessary, report resident’s food intake and output and any significant change in resident’s eating habits
-- Document client's intake and output on flow sheet as necessary
-- Help client in and out of bed or chairs, including assisting with mobility using canes, walkers and wheelchairs, utilizes Hoyer lift or other mechanical transfer devices
-- Utilize appropriate transportation device when necessary
-- Assist in the cleanliness of the client's environment: wipe and clean bedside tables, change linens on beds, ensure clients have sufficient supplies
-- Assist with examinations and treatments as directed
-- Document accurately and completely in accordance with the agency policy and procedure
-- Maintain client confidentiality at all times and in accordance with regulations
-- Observe and report changes in condition or incidents to the Nurse Supervisor
-- Project a friendly, helpful, caring, and enthusiastic attitude to clients and their families
-- Attend monthly in-services
-- Perform other duties as required
