Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 5 to 21 with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, Va., Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We even have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior.

Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility.

As we continue to grow our Recreation Therapy Department, Harbor Point BHC is seeking a CTRS to work as a Mental Health Tech, t o provide recreation/activity therapy to all resident at Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center– according to the facility standards as well as State and Federal regulations. Recreation/activity therapists provide services including assessment, develops activity programming, provide activity/recreation therapy services. Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors. Ensures environment remains safe and normative culture remains positive throughout facility. Contributes to formulation, implementation and revision of the resident individual treatment plan.

&nb sp; Activity/Recreation Therapist should possess knowledge of:

1. Therapeutic Recreation, Art Therapies, and Music Therapies.

2. Theories of learning and teaching (modifications & accommodations).

3. Stages of learning.

4. Effective methods for group facilitation.

5. Assessment principles and types.

6. Methods for observation/data collection.

&nbs p; & Activity/Recreation Therapist should possess skills to:

&nbs p; & &nbs p; 1. Present effective groups aligned with appropriate therapeutic goals in regards to

Treatment.

1. Organize and plan therapeutic groups.

2. Establish group expectations and hold students accountable for meeting them.

3. Manage resident behavior effectively.

5. Maintain positive relationships with students and co-workers

Will be provided documented supervision of therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, adolescent growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, crisis management of aggressive behaviors and CPR.

Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Activity/Recreation Therapy, Art Therapy, or Music Therapy with CTRS

Licensure/ Certification: Current CTRS required

sp; Current valid driver’s license &nb sp; CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Management Certification

Experience: A minimum of six months of experience working with children.

Physical

Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Use the full range of body motion including handling and physically restraining students when necessary. Perform First Aid and CPR. May require physical exertion for recreational activities. Must possess physical ability to assist restraining residents under such circumstances. Prefer experience operating a 15 passenger van. The Physical Requirements for this position include being able to stand, squat, kneel, sit and lie on the floor for long periods of time. Must be able to climb, run and walk for long periods of time as well. Must be able to read, write clearly, talk and listen. Able to verbally de-escalate and physically restrain when necessary.
