Position: Chair, Department of Africana Studies,
Rank: Associate Professor (with tenure) or Professor (with tenure)
Appointment Date: August 1, 2013.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate or terminal degree with teaching and
administrative experience at the university level. Applicants must have a
demonstrated record of scholarship or creativity in Africana Studies or a
related field and must have scholarly credentials consistent with the rank of
Associate Professor with Tenure or Professor with Tenure in the Department of
Africana Studies at SIU Carbondale. Preference will be given to applicants with
significant experience in academic administration.
Duties: The chair is responsible for the fiscal and academic
administration of the department, which offers courses leading to the major (B.
A.) in Africana Studies. This department resides in the College of Liberal Arts
and has a core faculty, assisted by adjunct and affiliated faculty from other SIU
Carbondale departments and programs. Responsibilities also include graduate and
undergraduate instruction and research in one's academic discipline,
undergraduate instruction in Africana Studies; as well as university and
