The position is responsible for c oordinating the daily operations of the Orthopedic Service Line.
The successful RN candidate will have had extensive Operating Room experience specific to Orthopedic cases.
License/Certification Required: CA RN license, BLS or HCP CPR Certification from The American Heart Association.
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
Participates in and coordinates surgical activities to meet Joint Commission Total Joint Recertification and Blue Shield Blue Distinction COE Status.
Reviews performance measures specifically related to the Orthopedic Service to include turnover times, first case time start, and cost saving strategies.
Identifies and implements measures to improve efficiencies that effect quality patient care and orthopedic surgeons’ efficiencies and work satisfaction
Communicates Ortho team performance with Ortho Service Line Director and physicians.
Collaborates with RN Circulators to ensure completeness of patient record prior to procedure. Collaborates with ancillary services, i.e. Surgical Interview, Pharmacy, and Imaging to ensure timely coordination of interdepartmental activities.
Directs and assists with upkeep of HSM Resource Maps (Surgeon Preference Cards).
Oversees the activities of the Ortho Team to ensure all responsibilities are met in order for cases to proceed on time. Assigns team members to support these functions or personally participates in the role of Facilitator.
Validates all labs/results present, e.g., H&P consents.
Ensures antibiotic order is appropriate for allergies.
Helps tech open room by completing counts and assisting with prep, Foley, etc., and positioning
Checks case cart for needed supplies, instruments needing reprocessing, availability of special equipment, monitors the whereabouts of rep(s).
Checks in subsequent patient(s); as appropriate, give breaks
Supervises activities, keeps team on task and assists as needed with room turnover
Supports primary circulator to be with patient as much as possible.
Coordinates daily operations of Ortho Services including: Daily staffing assignments Surgery schedule changes Add-ons Coordination of departmental resources Coordinating and supervising Ortho nursing and technical staff
Acts as liaison with Director of Surgical Services, Medical Staff and other customers for the Director of Ortho Services when not present
Contributes to the development of policies and procedures, performance improvement plans, and has general oversight for staff orientation and development within Ortho service, promotes performance excellence standards within the department.
Manages Kronos system for the Ortho Team, monitors the performance and competency of the staff and gives verbal and written input for annual performance evaluations, a s well as assisting the Director with personnel issues regarding noncompliance of policies and procedures.
