Metl-Span, is the leading manufacturer of insulated metal panels that are used in cold storage, architectural, commercial and industrial construction.

We are currently seeking a Chemical/Quality Lead Technician.


Perform duties to order, store, formulate, blend and check the quality of chemicals used in the production of the company’s line of products.

Essential Functions
  • Work from work schedules, formulas, quality documentation and instructions.
  • Order chemicals and schedule deliveries. Alter chemical orders and deliveries as required to maintain adequate volume of materials to suit production requirements. Perform specified quality checks on incoming chemicals and record related data. Take samples from truck during transfer, mix with specified chemicals and run samples to verify against certificate of analysis, checking for reaction profile and density. Report on discrepancies and contact supplier to report and resolve quality issues.
  • Blend chemicals in accordance with formulas and make required adjustment to blend based on specific chemical properties of purchased material and to suit operating condition and weather. Test samples of blended chemicals to test for reaction time and density and make required adjustments.
  • Perform density checks at various intervals on finished panels to ensure consistent quality of chemical product and production operations.
  • Receive samples and conduct freezer test. Record panel dimensions, place samples in freezer, remove after designated period, measure panel and record results. Report deviations from standard.
  • Perform physical inventory of material, record and report on results.
  • Maintain parts inventory for foam dispensing heads. Issue heads, oversee set up of dispensing heads on production line to check for proper assembly. Check returned parts for cleanliness an wear and report the need to replenish parts.
  • Notify management of unusual equipment or operating problems.
  • Train and instruct other in the use and operation of the foam injection lance. Assist with the operation of lance to inject chemicals into molds as required. Disassemble, clean, assemble and check valve and nozzle assembly on generating hose. Calculate foam quantities to be injected into molds. Set programs and operate lance to inject foam into molds.
  • Must be flexible with hours and willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
  • Perform or assist with operations as required or directed to maintain work flow or respond.
  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications:
    • 1 year chemical experience is preferred
    • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide including decimals and fractions.
    • Must be flexible with hours and willing to work ovetime and weekends as needed.
    • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.
