POSITION SUMMARY: The under the supervision of Director of Facilities

performs/supervises services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain current knowledge in areas of all power plant equipment and operations and hold a Mass State 2nd Class Engineer License. Supervises staff and ensures maintenance of equipment in good working order, following manufacturer and all regulatory guidelines. Participates in Environment of Care program.

  • Responds to all SRC patient related requests immediately.
  • Complete knowledge of the Johnson EMS and instructs all his operators on the system.

Position Specific Performance Criteria/Essential

Job Functions/Competencies

Performs position specific job functions at an acceptable level.

Establish standards of operation, policies and procedures, and objectives. Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program for steam generating equipment and systems.

Evaluate generating equipment, distribution systems and recommend modifications and replacement as needed.

Serve as Utility resources and problem solver to Facilities Department.

Efficiency reports of utilities will be based on actual data gathered from the main power plant.

LEADERSHIP:

Provide technical assistance to power plant operators.

Exercises independent judgment and demonstrates leadership skills necessary to keep the plant operating smoothly and efficiently

Provide in-service programs and encourage participation in educational programs.

Direct care and maintenance as required. May participate on committees as requested. (i.e. Utilities Chair of Safety Committee).

Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, work shops, professional affiliations, etc.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct, supervise, coordinate and monitor power plant functions. Serves as utility resource and problem solver to Facilities department.

Maintain equipment and perform related duties to insure safe, reliable and efficient operation of the power plant.

Establish standards of operation, policies and procedures and objectives. Ensure compliance with state, federal and insurance carrier requirements, and accreditation and regulatory agency requirements.

Act as liaison for hospital energy conservation programs.

Monitors actual expenses to budget on a monthly basis and explains variances to superior.

Investigate incidents and prepare variance reports.

Be available for assistance as Safety Officer whenever it is deemed necessary by cause, incident or personal contact with Administration.

Submit assigned Preventative Maintenance Planned Work Orders within the assigned timeframe.

MANAGEMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT OF CARE

Operate and maintain steam generating plant, emergency generators and perform related functions.

Maintain schedule of City Waste Water testing and reporting. Maintain schedule of testing of emergency generators.

Test and maintain records for water testing on various systems, including but not limited to boilers, cooling system, cooling towers, city water etc.

Maintain schedule and analysis of data for Environmental Rounds in an accurate and timely manner.

MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Effectively select, train, assign, schedule and supervise power plant staff.

Provides valuable and timely performance feedback. and recommends appropriate personnel actions such as merit increases, transfers, promotions, disciplinary action and termination.

Resolve grievances and problems.

Interpret hospital, department, power plant policies and procedures to staff.

Maintain personnel records and job descriptions.

Provide in-service programs and encourage participation in educational programs,.

Encourage further growth of employees by providing access to various seminars, training and Massachusetts License law requirements.

CARE OF PATIENTS/

DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC SKILLS

Operate power plant equipment as required to meet demands for steam, heat, cooling, emergency generators, etc.

Be able to provide alternate sources of utilities in case of failure of main utility systems.

MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION

Identifies needs, obtains analyses, compares and integrates usefulness of information in a confidential manner, to improve out comes of services and sharing information.

Advise, assist, develop and implement programs, tools, etc., for the development of data and management reports as are required for the safe, reliable, operation for the environment of care.

Provides accurate efficiency reports of utilities based on actual data gathered from the main power plant.

Maintain all power plant records, logs, state logs, etc. in neat, clean and legible manner, for inspection by state inspector, insurance inspector and any other regulatory agent as may be required.
