As a member of the senior management team, the Chief Operating Officer directs, administers, and coordinates the activities of the organization in support of policies, goals, long-term strategies, and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors. The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating operational projects and staffing, performance improvement activities, hospital-wide planning and regulatory compliance activities.
The primary responsibilities include:
Evaluating the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and reports results to the CEO.
Participates with members of the governing board, medical staff, administrative team, hospital management and clinical and non-clinical groups in decision-making structures and processes.
Actively involved in both the Operating and Capital budget process
Establishes philosophy and develops competent ancillary and clinical directors/supervisors. Insures those directors and coordinators implement the organizations plans for providing quality clinical and supportive care to patients. Evaluates operational results and recommends the most cost effective solutions.
Participates in community-based groups/activities as a representative of hospital administration; participates with community and Corporate leaders in decision making and support of innovative healthcare practice.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of health care administration, fiscal management and government regulations and reimbursements.
Must be able to exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment and discretion.
Ability to plan, organize and integrate priorities and deadlines.
Proven leadership skills and ability to build effective teams to achieve goals and objectives.
Strong oral and written skills, ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.

Working knowledge of health information systems and policies and procedures to manage operations and ensure effective patient care.

Must possess the ability to analyze information effectively to arrive at critical decisions and take effective action.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Healthcare Management or equivalent experience required
Master's degree preferred
Minimum of five (5) years of executive leadership experience required, preferably in the healthcare industry.
