The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of our Travel, Media & Entertainment business is an opportunity for a talented executive to join the senior management team of one of the most innovative marketing firms in the world. We are looking for an executive that is adept at building and growing businesses, managing large accounts, leading teams within a matrixed environment, and driving customer relationship marketing solutions. Role and Responsibilities : The CSO will serve as a member of Merkle’s senior management team and collaborate with senior executives in the development and implementation of broader corporate strategies. This leader will set the strategy for Merkle’s efforts within Travel, Media & Entertainment vertical.
Leading the development of key vertical market and functional value propositions and competitive differentiation approaches
Leading client engagements for CRM strategy development and deployment
Key leadership role in the growth and sales process to generate and support prospects and client opportunities
Development of original research, white papers, articles and industry speeches that generate best practice and leading edge thinking buzz
Team development and management
Business growth, financial target and P&L ownership
The Chief Strategy Officer should have a strong point of view on the challenges and opportunities being faced within the Travel, Media & Entertainment space and be adept at creating a value proposition where CRM can meet those opportunities. Key roles and responsibilities:
Strategic thinking/visioning: Understands the challenges faced within the TM&E arena and can develop and deliver unique CRM strategies to help address them.
Creativity/Innovation: Stays ahead of industry trends. Constantly looking for new solutions to customers’ challenges. Is aware of innovations occurring across Merkle and finds ways to leverage them in the TM&E vertical. Fosters and rewards innovation from the TM&E team.
Data Driven Marketing Experience:
The CSO should have a reputation as an industry influencer and driver. He/she will have combined leadership experience in an agency and on the client side. He/she should be someone who has a strong point of view on data driven marketing strategy and shares this viewpoint through articles, blogs and speaking engagements. Key roles and responsibilities:
Thought Leader: Positioning Merkle as a “thought leader” in data driven marketing/CRM and accomplishes that by forming and advocating a strong point of view. Takes advantage of opportunities to share that point of view in articles and at conferences and encourages the team to do so as well.
The CSO will need to be an experienced business builder. This leader will be skilled at leading business development efforts and managing a P&L to deliver on growth and profit goals. In addition to bottom line business growth, we will expect this individual to build and lead a team that can exceed expectations and deliver on our client commitments. Key roles and responsibilities:
Business Development: Leading business development with responsibility for proactively growing existing client business and developing new business opportunities
Business Acumen: Understands how to effectively managing a P&L. Experienced with forecasting growth and able to deliver on financial commitments.
Ability to hire/keep A-players: Understands the importance of hiring and keeping A-players and believes that doing so is as important as landing a million dollar account. Helps to source, select and sell A-players on joining Merkle. Keenly focused on engaging and keeping existing A-players.
Education : The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree. An advanced degree from a leading academic
institution is strongly preferred.
