The Chief Technology Officer Software Power and Water provides technical leadership and serves as the strategic functional leader for all GE Power and Water software products and services. This role is responsible for working across all Product Teams and other functions as well as the Corporate Software Center of Excellence to shape and define the overall technical software vision and strategy for GE Power and Water.

Essential Responsibilities
The Chief Technology Officer Software Power and Water is responsible and accountable for quality, performance, controllership and oversight for all software processes and technologies in the GE Power and Water portfolio and is recognized as a technical expert and thought leader inside and outside of GE. This role leads the technical software vision of the organization. The Chief Technology Officer Software Power and Water will be called upon to represent P&W regularly and speak at corporate and external conferences and symposia as a recognized industry functional expert; and be called upon to interact with the technical community through collaborations and conferences as well as serve as a resource for review of technical papers and publications. As a recognized technical expert he/she will help define the P&W business software strategy and identify opportunities for software based products to create unique solutions and products. In addition, in this role you will:
  • Develop and drive the overall GE Power and Water software vision and strategy
  • Own overall technical excellence and quality of all GE Power and Water software
  • Drive Multi-generation Technology & Platform roadmap with business leadership to achieve sustainable growth for the business
  • Provide linkage for GE Power and Water to the leadership and strategy of the GE Software COE in San Ramon, CA
  • Oversee GE Power and Water software development and be accountable for the overall quality and continuous improvement of the software from all parts of the business
  • Drive communications and buy-in of the software strategy from all levels of GE Power and Water and GE Corporate Software COE leaders and Product Teams
  • Provide technical consultation and leadership during the design process in all aspects of software design and development from conceptual design through product retirement
  • Create the vision, strategy, guidance and development of the GE Power and Water software technical community including training, selection, coaching and evaluation
  • Leverage Agile SW Design principles and Six Sigma DFSS methodologies to drive design efficiency and speed to market.
  • Translate new concepts in software methodology into design guidance, develop long term strategy, and drive change and continuous improvement in design practices
  • Help create programs responsive to the external environment that leverage cross-business and cross-functional synergies
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the software design review process, as well as chair formal software design reviews
  • Collaborate with business leaders, product managers, and peers across functions (e.g. QA/RA, Supply Chain, Service, Marketing, Sales, IT) to drive a high performance team environment.
  • Build strong partnership with GRC, and government & regulatory bodies to
    assist, as needed, in forming policies to capture consumer and industry
    interest.
  • Mentor the management and staff in software engineering rigor and
    integrating software technology into products.
  • Apply personal experience/knowledge to help solve software technical
    problems.
  • Disseminate lessons learned and ensure communications across all GE
    Power and Water software design organizations.
  • Inspire, motivate and engage the entire GE Power and Water software community, integrate with the Corporate COE and gain their collective buy-in to the overall business software strategy
  • Demonstrate the highest levels of leadership integrity, openness, compliance and honesty in all business interactions

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in a software engineering leadership capacity and strong experience base in product and systems software coupled with proven business acumen

    Desired Characteristics
  • MSc. Or PhD in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with experience in software development
  • Global project and functional experience
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and leadership skills to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions
  • Ability to meet aggressive reliability, performance, cost, service, and delivery targets
  • Demonstrated self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes
  • DFSS or Green Belt/Black Belt Certified (Six Sigma Design/Quality) and LEAN skills
  • Technology MGPD: Excellent multi-generation segment technology planning and rationalization experience with an excellent understanding of product system architecture(s), platforms and core technologies
  • Functional Experience: Excellent program management, organizational design, execution planning and control competency
  • Demonstrated track record leading technical software designs

  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and successfully manage conflicting priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Responsive and willing to take ownership of challenging and potentially unpopular issues and drive solutions
