Employees in the child care therapy aide role serve as a front line worker and care giver with the individuals being served. Successful candidates must function as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team as a teacher of life skills and behavior management. Planning and supervising clients in areas of programming and activities and must understand and respond to the varied needs of a culturally diverse population. Awareness and responses to the client needs, family needs and for the overall structure and consistency within the group or unit are necessary. All employees are responsible for the supervision and safety of the group during their working hours.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in Human Service, Associates degree in Child Care Work or Human Service, or High School Graduate and some direct experience working with emotionally disturbed children
  • Dependable, stable, mature and warm character
  • Ability to establish relationships, set limits and offer understanding to emotionally disturbed children
  • Work as member of a team
  • Physically active and mobile, participate in and supervise all activities including sports
  • Previous experience working with children, experience with groups of emotionally and mentally disturbed children preferred
  • Able to manage hostile and aggressive behavior of children
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have mobility to access multi-level buildings
  • Valid drivers license

  • Assist individuals in the development of their gross, fine motor and communicative abilities. Tolerate pathology while holding out normal expectations for children
  • Teach clients living skills such as decision making, personal control, interpersonal communication and problem solving
  • Coach residents in activities of daily living skills
  • Tutors and assist clients in formal education endeavors
  • Instructs and monitors to ensure that the daily routine, structure and rehabilitative programming is maintained and all related standards are met

  • Programming:
  • Understand the residential treatment process and follow methods outlined in the treatment plans
  • Good understanding of human growth and development
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of age and developmentally appropriate programming through culturally diverse activities and recreational outings that are appropriate to the goals objectives and methods outlined in the treatment plan
  • Supervise and assist in transporting clients as required

  • Environment:
  • Monitors and helps ensure a safe and secure environment for the clients
  • Adheres to infection control procedures
  • Support, communicate and cooperate with interdisciplinary personal and co-workers an all endeavors concerning the therapeutic, educational and medical care of clients

  • Therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI):
  • Implement all steps of the TCI training appropriately and safely utilizing lower level techniques effectively and appropriately
  • Use physical intervention appropriately and safely
  • Create and maintain event reports which include descriptions of antecedents, the event and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner
  • Actively participates in TCI training and updates
