General Purpose:
Provide Civil/Structural/Hydro Engineering and Project Management for hydro power projects.

Work closely with Hydro Operations and Maintenance Staff

Oversee design and construction of civil, structural, geotechnical aspects of hydro and dam projects from concept through construction. Will include oversight of design consultants and construction contractors. Perform design and oversee drafting on smaller projects.

Develop and administer construction contracts to ensure safe, timely, and cost effective completion of projects.

Management of projects including estimates, budgets, schedules, material procurement, engineering documentation, coordination with involved departments, etc.

Write and review reports for submittal to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Required Skills:
Requires high level of interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive and productive internal and external working relationships.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong computer skills. Ability to handle several assignments simultaneously and ability to work in a team environment.

Required Skills

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with preference given to a Master’s degree.

Experience:
Minimum of 8 years related experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience in structural steel, concrete, and foundation design for dams and hydroelectric facilities as well as project management experience from the conceptual phase through construction.

Consideration will also be given to civil engineers with geotechnical, water resources, or general civil engineering experience, especially if it is related to dams and hydroelectric facilities.

Experience in dealing with FERC is a definite plus.

Special Requirements:
Current PE license is required and must obtain a Minnesota PE license within six months of hire.

Valid driver’s license.

Frequent travel to Minnesota Power dams and hydroelectric facility sites in Northeast Minnesota including some overnight travel.
