The Unit Clerk is accountable for independently and accurately interpreting and transcribing all physician orders and medications along with all related treatments, preps, nomograms, and protocols. The Unit Clerk must demonstrate the ability to multi-task, manage simultaneous communications, and set priorities while maintaining exceptional first line customer service and interpersonal behaviors in a confidential manner. The Unit Clerk possesses the ability to work independently, exercising judgment and discretion while maintaining a calm demeanor and good judgment in a highly stressful environment. The Unit Clerk is responsible to successfully complete the SH Unit Clerk Class.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to speak, read, write, spell, and comprehend English. Ability to utilize email and electronic forms of communication effectively, as appropriate. Skill in organization of job responsibilities with strict attention to detail. Ability to work independently, exercising judgment and discretion. Excellent interpersonal skills essential. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information. Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred. Ability to maintain calm demeanor and good judgment in a highly stressful environment.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred hospital related experience. Preferred computer/data entry experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Requires prolonged sitting, mobility, and reaching. Requires frequent keyboarding and talking. May require lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds. Requires normal vision range, and normal or corrected hearing. Requires prolonged exposure to video display terminal. Additional hours are an essential job function for this position in order to meet the needs of our patients/department. The inability to perform additional hours could result in termination.
