- Current BCLS and NRP certifications
- RN with current IBCLC certification
- Three years recent clinical experience as a Lactation Consultant - RN in the hospital setting on a post-partum unit or in the NICU
- Superb interpersonal skills as well as oral, written, and presentation skills
- Advanced computer skills
- Leadership experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Functions as a clinical resource for lactation care in addition to individually providing expert lactation consultation services to patients and families; utilizes the nursing process in the approach to care of patients to promote quality breastfeeding/lactation outcomes; conducts annual performance evaluations, monitors completion of employee annual requirements, coaches employees as needed, reviews/approves timecards and co-ordinates new hire orientation; organized and able to clearly present a formal class or presentation; able to prepare reports utilizing computer expertise. Collaborates with the Manager to ensure implementation of department operational goals and those of the hospital including Baby-Friendly, Magnet and Planetree Designations. Clients include patient/family nursing staff, physicians and the organization.
Lactation services are provided primarily on an inpatient basis to a very busy 72 bed mother-baby unit (MIS) and a fast-paced 84 bed NICU. This position will practice primarily on the MIS unit and float occasionally to the NICU. In addition to a high functioning lactation team. SMBHWN has a New Beginnings Boutique, staffed by Certified Lactation Educators, to provide retail accessories, basic education and several support groups to promote a successful breastfeeding experience for expectant and new parents.
