YOU MUST MEET ALL THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW:
1. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.# Must provide official Nursing transcripts.
- Assess patients' conditions by reviewing all systems and the patients' health record.
- Monitors and identifies and interprets serious situations.
- Administers medications.
- Observes patients for adverse conditions and reactions.
- Operates and monitors specialized equipment.
2. An active, unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the above, you must also meet the following minimum requirements for the grade level you wish to be considered for:
GS-05: Completion of a program of less than 30 months duration or associate degree AND 1 year of professional nursing, or at least GS-04 level Practical nursing experience under the supervision of a professional nurse OR completion of a program of at least 30 months' duration or 4 academic years above high school or bachelor's degree.
GS-07: Completion of a professional nursing program AND 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level OR 1 full year of graduate education or bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement.
GS-09: 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's degree OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience for the Nurse/Clinical Nurse include: work experience reflecting knowledge of hospital policy and procedures relating to patient care. Work experience managing patient care in varying medical situations.
Time-in grade Requirements: Candidates applying under the provisions of the Merit Promotion Plan must have completed at least 52 weeks of service at the GS-04 level to qualify for the GS-05 level, and at least 52 weeks of service at the GS-05 level to qualify for the GS-07; at least 52 weeks of service at the GS-07 level to qualify for the GS-09 level; at least 52 weeks of service at the GS-09 level to qualify for the GS-10.
