Clinical Nurse Specialist/Labor and Delivery Newton-Wellesley Hospital Full Time, Rotating Shift Responsibilities The clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is the clinical expert and leader for a specific nursing practice specialty. Through their interactions, the CNS promotes excellence in nursing practice by demonstrating expert nursing care to patients, serving as clinical resource to staff, providing education to advance the practice of the nursing specialty, and participating in quality and performance improvement activities. The CNS improves nursing practice by evaluating patient outcomes and standards of care for the patients served. The CNS is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies.

The CNS and the Nurse Manager collaborate to lead the nursing clinical practice specialty and work to improve and strengthen the systems that support quality patient care. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, Master's degree in Nursing required.Evidence of professional development and continuing education.Minimum 3 years clinical nursing and teaching experience required.Current knowledge and skill in peri-natal nursing to include two of the following: labor and delivery, high risk ante-partum, postpartum mother-baby care, level II neonates, level IIIneonates, high risk labor and delivery.Neonatal Resuscitation required.NCC Certification in one or more: Inpatient OB, High Risk OB, Maternal Newborn, Neonatal Intensive Care, Low Risk Neonatal preferred, Lactation Consultation certification preferred, CPR required, CNS Advanced Practice Certification or certification in area of nursing specialty required.
