The internship/coop role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to support/promote the graduate's career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The internship experience enables students to participate in professional activities for Volvo Powertrain by working on important and innovative projects. Internships are structured learning experiences where interns/coops and our full time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. The internship allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Powertrain.

Volvo-funded corporate housing is available for this co-op.

  • Work with engineers and laboratory technicians to document engine test cell capabilities
  • Create Engineering Report to summarize the regulatory requirements of On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) fault insertion and demonstration testing
  • Conduct a gap analysis of requirements vs. capabilities and make recommendations for improvement projects

  • Create a visual tool which illustrates the test cell hardware and software capabilities. Also shall include a summary of emission measurement methods by cell
  • Summarize “fault insertion” test protocols
  • Make recommendations by gathering information and ideas from senior engineers in the group
  • Develop the individual’s ability to gather information, create a synthesis of the data, and prepare a consolidated view of the issue

Essential Skills and Needed Experience
  • Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office Programs – specifically Excel and Word
  • General Knowledge in automation and database structure
  • Entering Sophomore year class standing or higher; MBA students also encouraged to apply
  • History of academic achievement: GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
