As a member of the Procurement organization, the Commodity Manager will provide leadership in the development and implementation of Ascend’s Commodity Strategies. The Commodity Manager will be responsible for defining, identifying and implementing key metrics, tools and systems to create alignment with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. The successful candidate will utilize their experience to develop and implement a strategic approach in regards to supplier selection and interface with the manufacturing sites as well as measuring, reporting and improving supplier performance.
Take on key responsibilities in the development and implementation of Ascend’s commodity strategies surrounding rotating and reciprocating equipment and ancillary services.
Enhance supplier effectiveness by becoming the main communication point between the manufacturing sites and suppliers.
Enhance organizational effectiveness by actively participating on the Spend Initiatives Team and leveraging experience to improve the company’s overall cost in regards to commodities.
Identify and implement key supplier metrics to monitor and measure supplier performance.
Implement corrective actions to improve supplier performance when necessary.
Act as a primary communication point between the Commodity Team and the Operations Center.
Ensure standards for ethical conduct are in place and are being adhered to.
Conduct analysis and compile data for presentations as needed.
A bachelor’s degree in Purchasing or a related field such as Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or Technical.
Strong strategic focus with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Procurement/Stores/Logistics/Engineering (capital projects) with a background in procuring materials, equipment, and services in support of a complex manufacturing (chemical) operation.
Strong negotiating skills and abilities.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and manage multiple priorities at one time.
Knowledge of procurement systems, purchasing policies and procedures as well as purchasing law is required.
Strong working knowledge of SAP.
Demonstrated ability to drive complex projects to completion within a short period of time.
Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels of the business.
Must exhibit strong communication, analytical and robust problem solving skills.
Must be highly proficient in all Microsoft applications – primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Minimum of 5 years experience in Procurement/Stores/Logistics/Engineering with a background in procuring materials, equipment, and services in support of a complex manufacturing (chemical) operation.
Experience as an SAP user.
