The Communications Coordinator/Copywriter will perform a variety of assignments for the Communications Director. DBHIDS Communications is responsible for the departments internal and external communications efforts. The office scope includes media relations, publications and marketing collateral materials, Web site design and content management, graphic design, internal communications, and advertising. The Communications Coordinator will serve as the primary copywriter, and assist in the development of a variety of communications vehicles to advance the DBHIDS mission including but not limited to newsletters, presentations, brochures, briefing packets, and talking points. Duties may also include layout/design.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Writes media advisories, press releases, op-ed pieces, letters to the editor or other news-related copy.

Drafts articles, reports, and similar documents for internal and external distribution.

Designs agency publications utilizing visual arts, typography and page layout techniques.

Conducts research required for the development of speeches by senior DBHIDS staff.

Coordinates or performs event photography.

Develops and maintains media and vendor lists.

Assists during press events.

Verifies accuracy of communication materials.

Manages Web content

Performs basic layout/design

Provides support for special events.

Performs other duties as needed.

Skills Required:
Excellent organization, written and verbal communication skills required. Strong computer and word processing skills with experience working with databases, with Excel and proficiency with a variety of software packages required. Effectiveness in highly professional realm is required, involving diplomatic communications with a variety of different groups and effective fielding of inquiries. Must have the following knowledge/experience: Strong command of the English language, with basic knowledge/experience using AP style guides. Strong knowledge of media and communication vehicles, including print, television, radio, and electronic/online media. Significant experience in writing, and editing collateral, such as brochures, articles, white papers, user manuals, proposals, and other material for a wide range of use. Demonstrates flexibility and strong organizational, project management, time management, and multitasking skills. Excellent presentation, verbal communication, writing and editing skills. Expert knowledge and skill in the use of MS Office programs, especially Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and other applicable office automation products. Proficient in using Adobe programs, especially InDesign, and Photoshop. Proficient with collaboration tools, such as wikis, blogs, and Microsoft SharePoint. Skilled in tracking, measuring and reporting PR metrics.
