Job Summary

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Communications Specialist II for the Policies, Institutions and Markets CGIAR research program (PIM). This position is based in Washington, DC and is an exempt, one-year, fixed-term appointment that is renewable depending on performance and funding. This position will require travel to field projects and events. Final title and grade will be determined based on experience.

Essential Duties
The main tasks will include:
• Manage contents of program website
• Implement social networking (Facebook, Twitter) and other web 2.0 tools to improve program visibility
• Collect and analyze web, social media, and other statistics to provide support for strategy decisions regarding PIM communications
• Manage internal collaboration platform (SharePoint)
• Liaise with IFPRI’s Communications Division and Publications Review Committee to prepare PIM products for dissemination and branding
• Write various types of communication materials on the outputs of the program (examples: blurbs, press releases, briefs, newsletters, brochures, materials to support fundraising…)
• Prepare PowerPoint, Prezi and other presentations, and maintain a library of useful presentations
• Assist in coordinating writing of reports to be delivered to the CGIAR or donors
• Provide editorial support
• Upon request, coordinate logistics and provide support for PIM events and workshops
• Represent PIM at outside events/conferences as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, International Development, or related field, plus 1-3 years’ relevant experience, preferably with an international organization
o At the Communications Specialist II level, Master’s degree in Communications, International Development, or related field, or equivalent and,
o Minimum of four year’s relevant work experience, preferably with an international organization
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills
• Good copyediting skills
• Ability to convey scientific and research information to diverse audiences in an engaging and concise manner
• Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams
• Good interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of social networking and web 2.0 tools
• Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks
• Professional level of attention to detail and ability to multitask
• Knowledge of, and interest in, international development issues
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally

Preferred Qualifications
• International experience, especially in Asia or Africa
• Working knowledge of, or fluency in, French or Spanish
• Background, or interest, in agriculture
