Since 1967, Lakeside Behavioral Health
System (LBHS) has been the premier provider of specialized
behavioral health and addictive disease services in the Memphis and
Mid-South region. The 305-bed facility, located on a serene 37-acre
campus in northeast Shelby County, serves as the setting for the
treatment for children, adolescents, young adults, adults and
seniors. Lakeside’s comprehensive programs treat disorders such
as bipolar disorder, psychological trauma, depression and anxiety,
mental illnesses and addictive disease disorders such as alcoholism,
drug addiction and substance abuse.
The Community Counselor creates a safe environment
for patients, saves lives when necessary, provides hope, empowers
patients, and teaches new tools for coping to patients. The Community
Counselor provides direct patient care under the supervision of a
registered nurse. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a
safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, individual/family
education groups and activities of daily living.
The following are the job requirements for
Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Social Work or
related field highly preferred
Associates Degree required; or a high school
diploma/equivalent with a minimum of (4) years of formal work
experience with the psychiatric patient population required.
Knowlege of human behavior or principles of
Psychology, age specific growth and development, limit setting and
behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors, and
CPR training preferred.
