The Organizer for the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama's Community Engagement and Education Program is a fulltime position for a bilingual-bicultural Spanish/English individual who will work flexible hours to develop leadership and increase civic engagement in the immigrant Latino community, educate our host community on the Hispanic culture and advocate for the social, civic and economic integration of Latino immigrants in Alabama.
Works in the Latino community, primarily in Central Alabama, to identify issues and implement campaigns
Identifies, build relationships with, and helps train community leaders through the Alabama Organizing Project (AOP)
Facilitates educational workshops, including "Know Your Rights" workshops
Works with state, regional and national partners (Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice, Southeast Immigrant Rights Network, National Council of La Raza) to implement campaigns and other projects
Works flexible hours to meet program requirements and community needs, including evenings and weekends
Attends appropriate trainings for program implementation
Completes monthly reports and other documentation
Peforms other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor's degree in social sciences field; extensive work or volunteer experience could suffice
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are essential
Must be a self-starter with strong interpersonal, organizational and record-keeping skills
Fluency in Microsoft Office
Prior experience in a nonprofit setting helpful
Valid driver's license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation
