The Community Organizer job will promote the Girl Scouts of Northern California by conducting programs and other membership initiatives in targeted communities in order to build girl and adult volunteer membership. She or he will work collaboratively with staff members, volunteers, and community partners to assess the needs of our underserved populations, in particular the Hispanic population, and to implement delivery systems which are appropriate to those needs. This job is a community field-based position that will help develop troops, build connections with Girl Scouts volunteer service units and work with existing and build new community partnerships.
1. Working with Membership and other council staff will help to identify select sites within assigned communities to be targeted.
2. Develop culturally relevant recruitment strategies and multiple delivery systems to bring membership and program to girls and families in underserved communities with an emphasis on Latinas. This includes the development of relevant marketing materials to recruit and attract Latina girls and their families; being prepared to speak to girls and groups, such as parents, school administrators and community partners; conducting research about the communities.
3. With target sites in the communities identified and programs/ recruiting tools established, the Community Organizer will develop and implement a strong community-based plan to build membership with diversity communities and in particular with Latinas and will be held accountable to reach recruiting goals as identified with the manager.
4. Develop and maintain positive relationships with youth, social organizations and schools to market Girl Scouts and to build collaborations.
5. This includes attending parent meetings, organizing troops and other events in the community as needed or as opportunity is identified. Meetings are often conducted in the afternoons or evenings or on weekends.
6. Participate in cross functional teams as assigned, including the MVP Team (Membership, Volunteer Resources, Program, and Product Sales).
7. Provide written reports, demographic data, trends and other information as needed to support accurate planning and decision making.
8. Prepare, collect, and submit organized and complete forms and reports in a timely manner, such as membership and activity reports, and time sheets.
9. Communicate regularly with supervisors either in person, on the phone or by email. As this is a field based position the individual will work independently and must demonstrate initiative and accountability.

11. Follow all Girl Scouts policies and procedures and be able to meet and uphold all safety standards.

- High School diploma or equivalent, some college preferred. Prior experience working with youth.
- Ability to work with people of all racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities.
- Must be bilingual- able to speak, read and write English and Spanish
- Ability to speak effectively before a group and in one-on-one situations.
- Ability to work under a prescribed program, without immediate supervision.
- Ability to role model healthy and empowered decision making skills.
- Strong computer skills to be able to write reports, draft communications, create flyers, navigate the internet and use email. Ability to deal with challenging people situations and address/resolve problems.
- Have access and able to use reliable transportation, a valid CA driver’s license, auto registration, and auto insurance. A DMV report to assure a safe driving record will be conducted. GSNorCal will reimburse for miles driven for council business as per the mileage reimbursement policy.
- Ability to transport program materials to and from schools or other community locations.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs, walk on uneven terrain (as may be found outdoors) walk 150 yards nonstop, to stretch, twist, and do whatever is required to load/unload materials from vehicle.
- Available to work as scheduled and during evening or weekends as needed,
- Reliability - Ability to accurately report time worked /time sheet requirements as needed and to report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Ability to follow the council, school or community site dress code and other standards.
- Ability to meet the Girl Scouts background verification standards, including fingerprinting.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Strong organization skills to be able to work independently and to be prepared to conduct Girl Scouts activities.
- Knowledge of Girl Scouts philosophy, standards, program and systems
- Knowledge of teaching and behavior management techniques.
