The Hennepin County Attorney's Office (HCAO) serves as the chief prosecutor of all felony and juvenile crimes in Hennepin County. HCAO is also responsible for providing legal counsel to the Board of Commissioners and all Hennepin County departments, as well as representing county government in civil lawsuits, child support matters and child protection actions.
This position works closely with elected officials and the Chief Deputy and Division Managers as the department's communications manager to assist reporters in covering cases and/or initiatives of the HCAO.
The primary duties and responsibilities include:
Plan, develop and direct the media relations including responding to and resolving all media (print, TV, radio, internet) issues.
Advise the county attorney, deputy county attorneys, and division managers on all media issues.
Develop comprehensive plan to integrate all aspects of the County Attorney's Office communications infrastructure that includes, but is not limited to; write, edit and format content for website, annual report, brochures, email, newsletters, articles, speeches, presentations, social media, and public service announcements.
Maintain HCAO Internet and Intranet websites and determine how to maximize its impact.
Develop comprehensive program for building and maintaining effective relationships among the office, media (print, TV, radio, internet), and the community including staff training on media relations.
Supervise staff (Social Media and Community Relations).
Develop and manage the department's e-mail interaction with law enforcement, the courts, and the community related to crime activity.
Project planning related to the County Attorney's mission, vision, and annual goals.
Serve as community liaison and public speaker, including representing the County Attorney at community meetings and in committees within and outside Hennepin County. Best Qualified Candidates will have: One of the following: Masters degree or higher in public administration, business administration, public affairs, industrial relations, journalism, communications, or related field plus four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations, OR Bachelors degree in one of the above fields plus five or more years of the required experience An approved equivalent combination of education and experience. Five or more years of experience in working with either the print or broadcast media.
Experience presenting to large groups.
A well developed network of media contacts.
Experience developing website/web text.
Experience working with diverse communities.
Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies.
