Provide on-site support to DoD High Performance Computing (HPC) users in the Advanced Computational Environments (ACE) Cross-cutting Computational Technology Area (CCTA). ACE technologies include advancing the state of tools, algorithms, and standards for generalized run-time, and pre/post-processing analyses on very large (petabyte+) datasets. Work in this area includes: visualization; data mining and knowledge discovery; image analysis; mesh generation; problem solving environments; computational techniques; methods for intelligent extraction of useful information from data; all aspects of user interface to HPC resources, including programming environments (debuggers, libraries, solvers, higher order languages; performance analysis, prediction, and optimization tools), computing platforms (common queuing, clusters, distributed data, and meta-computing), and user access tools (portals and web-based access to HPC resources).
Improving the usability of the computational environments at DoD shared resource centers, from HPC down to the desktop, is a critical requirement to easily and effectively use DoD HPC resources. ACE on-site assistance is weighted toward computational assistance in debugging large parallel physical simulation codes, code coupling, numerical solvers, profiling and optimizing parallel applications, and visualization and analysis of very large datasets.
- Extensive knowledge of HPC and parallel programming techniques (e.g. MPI, OpenMP), in multiple physical science domains
- Expertise in the use of various programming languages used in scientific high performance computing (FORTRAN, C/C++, Perl, Python), scientific visualization software (e.g., EnSight), and mesh generation software (e.g. Pointwise, GRIDGEN) is also preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with people, and able to work effectively in a team dispersed over several locations
- Experience with Linux on large scale systems.
