EMPLOYER: Klamath County JOB TITLE: Computer Support Technician JOB NO: 151-317.05LOCATION: 316 Main Street DEPARTMENT: Information Technology REPORTS TO: Information Technology Director ---------------------- OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION ----------------------Responsible for the installation, repair, configuration, and preventative maintenance of personal computers, network equipment, and/or telecommunications equipment. This position requires a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects, as well as the technical phases of the job, and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered. The Tech will provide a wide variety of duties requiring a general knowledge of related organization policies and procedures, to include their application to cases not previously covered. In addition to the experience requirements, and demonstrated performance of the position, the employee should be able to assist and train others in the required tools / processes of the functional area(s) of their responsibility.---------------------- RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES -----------------------01 DUTIES (NOT IN PRIORITY ORDER) 01 Duties require considerable judgment to work independently toward general results; to devise new or modify/adapt existing methods, techniques, and procedures to meet new or unusual requirements; and to make related decisions controlled by precedent and within limits of established policies.

02 Performs routine and emergency maintenance and repair on computers, peripherals, and network equipment to provide stable computer systems to end users. 03 Develops internal network and systems procedures and documentation. 04 Assembles, configures, wipes, reimages, and deploys computers, accessories, and/or network equipment. 05 Performs system backups as necessary.

Identifies and interprets malfunctions and initiates corrective action to restore operation. 06 Maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access rights. 07 Loads, troubleshoots, tests and updates software packages including operating systems, commercial applications, word processing and spreadsheet programs. 08 Assists and/or trains individuals or groups of users in the use of software applications.

09 Assists in the creation and maintenance of documentation of procedures, hardware and equipment inventory. 10 Operate computer console and related peripheral equipment to process jobs and monitor system performance; perform file maintenance. 11 Remain current on technology developments through staff meetings, vendor demonstrations, technical literature, classes, and seminars, etc. 12 Adheres to confidentiality provisions/regulations including but not limited to Oregon Identity Theft Protection Act, HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), PCI DSS (Payment Card Security Standard), GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).---------------------------- COMPENSATION ---------------------------- STATUS: Non-Exempt CLASS/GROUP: Local 121 PAY TYPE: Hourly SALARY/GRADE: LH19 RANGE: $18.89 - $23.91--------------------------- WORK SCHEDULE ----------------------------The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management.

Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.----------------- EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL PREPARATION -----------------KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THIS POSITION Knowledge of: Considerable knowledge of computer operating principles, capabilities, and general uses; considerable knowledge of recommended computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. Proven knowledge of common network and authentication protocols/technologies such as TCP/IP, Microsoft Active Directory, network equipment, and cabling.Skills in: Diagnostic problem solving; Diagnosing and correcting computer hardware and software problems; guiding and encouraging computer system users and translating technical instructions into understandable language for users.

Ability to: Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; install, test, operate and adjust computer hardware, software and peripherals, using reference manuals and vendor-supplied technical support facilities for problem resolution; reason logically when analyzing data and utilize problem identification and resolution techniques; make decisions independently in accordance with established policy and use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; work within a team concept; plan and manage time efficiently; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, vendors and the public. Education, experience and training: Associate's degree in computer science or related field and two years experience in computer operations or a related field OR four years experience in computer operations or a related field OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and training. Desirable qualifications: Any Microsoft certifications, or a CCNA, A+, Network+, or Security+. Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, Active Directory, PC, and laptop Imaging and Powershell scripting.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS OF THIS POSITIONWork is performed under general direction of the IT Director. Recurring routine assignments are independently performed by employee on basis of past experience. Employee receives general instructions regarding scope of and approach to projects or assignments, but procedures and problem resolution are left to the employee's discretion and interpretation. Work is reviewed periodically to ensure determinations and decisions made are in according to departmental policy and procedures.

GUIDELINESWork is performed within department policies and procedures; reference manuals for hardware, software, and peripheral equipment; in-house computer documentation; standards manual for information and county systems; operating systems manuals; and other vendor supplied documentation. The employee uses considerable judgment in interpreting guidelines and applying solutions from available alternatives.
