Our Fortune 100 networking industry client needs a mid-level, operations-oriented contract Project Manager to coordinate and publish updates to the department’s website.
You’ll serve as the main logistical point of contact for the team, which helps partners worldwide sell and implement BYOD-related network security solutions. You’ll spend half your time tracking, analyzing, and reporting on metrics for these partners’ progress (think “Excel jockey”). The other half will involve operations work for the team managing releases for these solutions (think “Word and PowerPoint jockey”).
To succeed in this role, you’ll need a pro-active, can-do attitude and an extroverted personality, as well as strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills are a must, as is an instinctive sense of ownership and a flexible, team spirit; you’ll need to reprioritize and/or take on additional tasks on short notice. This client also values succinct communication and the willingness to pick up the phone to get results (as opposed to just using email).
You’ll need an assertive, take-charge personality with polished interpersonal skills to get coherent, complete answers from all team members. You must thrive on change, enjoy the challenge of unfamiliar situations, and be good at catalyzing progress politely but persistently.
If you prefer being a passenger to driving a project, or would rather send email than pick up the phone to hold your team members’ feet to the fire, you won’t do well in this role.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who has proven their ability to drive a project, is a quick learner (aka, can drink from a fire hose), and is willing to jump in and own complex, dynamic tasks.
You’ll work full-time (40 hours/week), entirely onsite in San Jose, for at least nine (9) months. You’d be paid on a 1099 basis, unless you prefer W2.
Track record of successful operations-focused project management
Expertise with Excel (e.g., pivot tables, graphs, and charts for 60,000-row spreadsheets)
Proficiency with PowerPoint
Strong people-orientation and a high-energy, take-charge, demanding (okay, pushy) demeanor that ensures respect and results
Willingness to learn and evaluate new tools (e.g., Tableau to replace Excel)
Ability to work in San Jose, CA (traveling at your own expense)
Experience updating wiki pages
Familiarity running WebEx meetings
3-5 years’ project-management experience
