This is a Material Designer position with specific focus in the coordination and creation of materials as they relate to product for the Converse Footwear Design team. Duties will include all aspects of the material design, sourcing, development, and pricing process as it relates to Converse footwear projects. Collaborate with design team to identify seasonal color and material direction and have the ability to carry it through from idea to concept to commercialization. Research and deliver materials, design, market and lifestyle trends that influence and impact the product category process from product briefing, product concept, samples, and to production. Develop and source the most current and innovative materials from both a fashion and performance standpoint. Ensure price advantageous material options with viable lead-times and minimums. Knowledge of material test standards and requirements. Display in-depth understanding of consumer, brand-positioning needs as it relates to category/division. Demonstrate strong knowledge about competitor products, consumer retail habits, materials, and market trends. Ability to apply insights from consumer perspective into materials solutions. Support design and technical development of product creation. Ability to work with overseas offices and vendors. Work with materials team and design/category to produce presentation materials that effectively communicate materials direction related to the consumer, product concepts, and creative strategy to internal audiences. Collaborate to create new practices, process, and design applications to increase category and product value and performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Materials Design and/or Fashion Design.
2+ years materials design and sourcing experience, preferably in footwear.
Strong knowledge of textiles, leathers, and synthetics.
Understanding of material trends, fabric characteristics, materials compatibility, and materials placement.
Proficient in Illustrator and Photoshop.
Strong verbal, written, visual, and high profile communication skills, including meeting facilitation and presentations.
Ability to multi task and time manage in a fast paced design driven culture.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse group.
Ability to network, influence, and utilize internal and external resources.
Ability to articulate how materials can affect product and sales.
